ew things inspire my scorn like an anonymous letter. The anonymous notes that arrive once in a while never will lead me to change. I resolved early in my real estate career not to take unsigned notes seriously. If they were really designed to get me to act, why not open honest dialogue? Instead the note is designed only as a taunt with the goal of making me feel bad, or sad or embarrassed. and the letter-writer, ashamed of such a low and childish motivation, wants not to be identified.

ver the past few weeks weve shared our view on how the ACC likes to cherry pick when they do and dont want to represent themselves as an HOA. We feel the ACC is selfserving because they have absolutely no qualms playing legal games, in both directions, related to using or not using an HOA status to collect money from residents, vote in ways that seem to best serve themselves, and continue to find ways to dodge their accountability to the Arizona Planned Communities Act, ARS 33-1801, et seq.
enhancements for our community. Residents expressed interests in an expanded community center, more sport courts, improved & larger gym/exercise facilities, more swimming pools, expanded trail network, etc... It cost residents money to share those suggestions.

The teens success is a sign the school must be hitting all the right notes. (It has a waiting list for new students on many instruments; a refreshing problem for an Anthem business.) Siren of Opportunity
It was a simple enough needAnthem resident Beth Langenhorsts son needed music lessons. But they both wanted something more than the traditional approach. I was ready for something new in my life, Langenhorst said. I did a lot of research to see the closest places and the models that they had. There also wasnt a place just for the typical musical supplies. You had to go all the way to Phoenix. So, she opened the school (and music store) and loosely based it on the school of the same name that Zach attended when they lived in California. With a dozen teachers, the school provides classes in piano, violin, bass, drums, flute, sax, clarinet and voice. Want to learn the oboe? They teach that, too.

Key of Success
For so many students, (see if this sounds familiar) the dream of musical competence dies with the sense that they are not making progress. The School of Music does well to keep that dream alive. Students experience a real sense of learning and progress that strikes

a chord of success. You always learn something new, Zach said. If you have a problem, you just take it step-by-step. My guitar teacher just kept pushing me until I got it. Then everything just flowed, he added. Goodwin laid out the teaching philosophy: We try to make it fun for them and show them things they want to learn. And while we show them what they want to learn, we implement the theory and the scales. We have great success with that. On Friday night, twice a month, the schools teachers and other local musicians gather for Jam Night. Students can also showcase what they have learned at recitals. Dont fret big kids; adults are welcome to come learn, as well. io

I personally like Frys. They have the better all-around deals, so its one-stop shopping. Once in a while I will go to Walmart.

I like Frys because it has better selection. Household things like cleaners etc., I buy at Walmart. I will go to Safeway if its convenient for me, but Safeway is expensive.
I like Costco because of bulk. I can take care of the month. Veggies and fruits I do at Albertsons. They have a good organic selection.

COUNCIL UPDATE
ollowing yet another discussion on becoming a planned community at its Feb. 22 meeting, Council, by a split vote, again decided against the move. Currently, ACC operates as a non-profit corporation. Planned Community status would force Council to operate under the Arizona Planned Communities statutes. KEEPING SCORE The motion to amend the governing documents failed 3 to 3.
Emily Wrinkle No
Bob Copen No
Ron Jerich No
Members: To be or not to be? As a Non-profit Corporation (without members)* The ACC is governed by its governing documents and not subject to Arizonas Planned Communities statutes. (Pulte retains veto power over Council). Property owners are not guaranteed the right to vote on issues. They can vote to elect or remove Board members or to approve regular assessment hikes of more than 20 percent per year. Council can impose special assessments at will. Use of enhancement funds collected after July 2011 are restricted to activities supporting recreation. Council is not expressly bound by open meeting laws. It can meet in private, excluding property owners. Homeowners are not guaranteed access to financial and other records.
As a Planned Community (with members) Property owners are automatically members. Members would have standing in regard to holding ACC accountable for possible violations of the Planned Communities statutes. Member voting rights are similar to those granted to Anthem property owners under the current governing documents. Members have the right to examine Association records, including financials. The scope of uses for enhancement fund dollars are broadened beyond recreational uses. *The ACC complies with several of the provisions of the Planned Community statutes voluntarily, but is not legally bound to do so.

ike most parents, my social life revolves around my kids and the parties they attend. My inaugural Arizona kiddie party featured two things that were foreign to my East Coast eyes. The first was a frozen margarita machine. For the life of me, I cant understand the logic of introducing brightly colored fruity drinkswhich happen to be laced with tequilato a room full of toddlers. Why not just throw a butane lighter and a couple of loose cigarettes into the goodie bags? The second was what I now know is as common to the desert as the cactus wren and the bolo tie. Yes, Im talking about the ubiquitous Bounce House. Ive got no problem with them, its just that I had never seen one before coming to Anthem, and here, they are everywhere. And its not only at childrens parties either. They seem to inflate themselves at every shindig at the park, at church functions, even wedding receptions. The original recreational bouncy was discovered, rather than invented,
when the children of a great hunter from the Pleistocene period were observed jumping up and down on the bloated carcass of a woolly mammoth. Since there was no Internet back then, marketing of this new phenomenon could only be achieved through cave drawings and indiscernible grunts, so it really never caught fire. Then the mammoths became extinct, so what was then called bloated mammoth bouncing went the way of the hoop skirt and Vanilla Ice. It was revived in 1959, when, according to modern lore, employees of an inflatable tennis-court cover company couldnt resist removing their collective shoes and frolicking about. The owner of the company got a big ol light bulb of an epiphany and founded Space Walks. The idea has been improved upon over the years and now we have bounce houses, bounce slides, bounce water slides, bounce obstacle courses, bounce princess castles and even bounce birthday cakes. My guess is bounce margarita machines cant be too far off. io
