Name of Lesson: Tablet Computing - How Can it Work for You?

Grade Level: 7 Subject: Computer Tech Prepared by: Cheronne Edwards Overview and Purpose: To provide students with an awareness of what a tablet is, how it functions, and the impact if used in classes or as a homework tool. Educational Standards 9.0 DEMONSTRATE TECHNOLOGICAL LITERACY REQUIRED IN THE WORKPLACE 9.1 Utilize technology based research tools to locate and collect information 9.2 Communicate using e-mail, Internet and other technology tools 9.3 Demonstrate computer literacy using word processing, spreadsheet and database software 9.4 Incorporate technology tools to enhance learning, to increase productivity and creativity Objectives: Specify skills/information that will be learned At the end of this lesson, you will be able to summarize the value of a tablet as an educational tool and write an essay to convince the governing board and education council of the importance of purchasing tablets for students use. Verification: Steps to check for student understanding

1. Formative assessments of class discussions and student engagement. 2. Brochure contains a description of a tablet and comparisons of tablet to a computer
and smart-phone for use in a classroom 3. Essay is complete and meets the holistic writing requirements for Language Arts and student learning plan. Activity: Describe activity that will reinforce the lesson Students will test drive a tablet for hands-on experience, then conduct Internet research to gather information to create a brochure to that can be distributed in the district that will exemplify the brochure objectives: Identify what a tablet is Compare and contrast a tablet with a computer and smartphone Identify possible academic uses for a tablet Additionally, students will compose a persuasive essay to the governing board and tribal education council requesting tablets for classroom use, with a checkout option for homework. Notes This project encompasses the use of computers, Internet and different productivity software applications. The assignment is intended to be a culminating activity, not an introduction to using publication or word processing applications. It is also an opportunity for students to understand their phones are for more than texting and social networking.
