EXT. - PARK - DAY Clear sky, sunny. A large gathering of people surround a mid-sized tree.

Each approaches the tree placing gifts like stuffed animals, candles and colorful flowers in front of it. A News Van is parked nearby. A camera crew films. NEWS REPORTER It is a mystery that has shadowed this small town for 5 years, and a question that still remains yet unanswered. Whatever happened to Shelley Myers? Today marks the 5th anniversary of her disappearance. The large gathering of people in the distance. The base of the tree continues to fill up as more and more gifts are left. NEWS REPORTER (O.S.) (CONT'D) Each year friends and people who know her gather around this tree, a place where Shelley often hung out to leave gifts in her memory. EXT. LARGE MOVIE THEATER COMPLEX - DAY

Endless flow people entering and exiting. NEWS REPORTER (O.S.) It was on the night of June 12th at this local Premier Cinema that Shelley Myers vanished without a trace. The last two people to see her was her best friend Megan Hartley and a male companion Johnny Tweed. EXT. HOUSE - DAY NEWS REPORTER (O.S.) One well known local resident, Psychic Vicki claims she knows where the missing girl is. INT. HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY

PSYCHIC VICKI, A Gray haired, Mature Woman sits on a couch. Various Cats climb and scurry around the couch.

PSYCHIC VICKI Shelley has met someone very special and is living with this person in Cairo. News Reporter sits in a chair facing her.

NEWS REPORTER Cairo? Doesn't she know that people are looking for her? Why would she cut off all communication with her family and just move to Cairo? PSYCHIC VICKI She is afraid that people won't understand. Her feelings for this person are the kind of love she's never felt at home. A special unconditional love. Look of uncertainty on his face. Large gathering of people in the distance. NEWS REPORTER Police aren't any closer to solving the case of the missing girl now, than they were four years ago. The people in this community have joined together, posting fliers in an endless effort to find out any information about the whereabouts of Shelley Myers. For LNN Local News Network, Im Lawrence Berglass. EXT. LARGE HOUSE - AFTERNOON A beautiful bright yellow house sits in a suburban neighborhood. The surrounding houses have beautiful green lawns and in-ground swimming pools

INT. KITCHEN - HOUSE - AFTERNOON MEG HARTLEY, a wholesome, youthful looking girl enters dressed in pajama wrobe. Her MOTHER places dishes in a dishwasher. MOTHER Oh honey, you just getting up? Her hand pressed against her face. MEG I couldn't get any sleep last night. MOTHER Oh honey. Placing her hand against Meg's forehead as if to check for a fever. MOTHER (CONT'D) Honey I know this is hard for you but, you do know what day it is? Her eyes focused towards the floor MEG (Softly) I know, mother. MOTHER The news reporters have been out there all morning. People started showing up early. Meg resisting to make eye contact. MOTHER (CONT'D) Listen honey, if you don't feel up to it maybe you should just stay home. MEG (Softly) No, I think Ill be fine. Both embrace. MEG (CONT'D) It's strange how every year around this time. The memory comes back to haunt me. I start having dreams about that night. MOTHER Oh honey, It just takes some time that all.

No longer embracing. MOTHER (CONT'D) Well if you're gonna go tonight I think you should try to get some rest. MEG Okay mother. MOTHER I have to go finish the laundry. Exiting the kitchen. MOTHER (O.S.) (CONT'D) There's a pot of fresh coffee on if you want it. INT. HOUSE - MEG'S BEDROOM

Blinds pulled closed. Sunlight Peaks through. Meg sound asleep on her bed. Suddenly her eyelids twitch erratically. INT. MOVIE THEATER - NIGHT -1984

The lobby packed movie goers. Meg, Shelley and Johnny make their way through the large crowd. JOHNNY TWEED, handsome, Rebel looking type. SHELLEY MYERS, raven haired, youthful looking with a bitchy attitude. Johnny walks between Meg and Shelley. His arm around a visibly annoyed Shelley. SHELLEY (Sarcastically) Well I see all the dweebs came out for this one. JOHNNY (Excitedly) This is gonna be so freaking awesome. House of the Devil, did you read what it said on the poster? Prepare to be scared to death. Geez I can't wait. SHELLEY I just hope we can find seats next to each other.

The line into the theater gets backed up. Meg tries to look over above the crowd. MEG What's going on? SHELLEY I dun no. Increasingly annoyed. Looking at her wrist watch. SHELLEY (CONT'D) The movie doesn't start until a couple of minutes anyway. Johnny why you get us some popcorn. Meg and I are gonna go to the ill' Girl's room. INT. MOVIE THEATER - LADIES ROOM Huge, lavish decor. Empty. Toilet flushes. Shelley exits the stall. SHELLEY You really should have let me fix you up with one of Johnny's friends. We could have double dated. No thanks. MEG

Standing at the mirror. Meg in the reflection. SHELLEY Megan, you're my best friend. I wouldn't just pair you up with some loser. Removing a hair brush from her handbag. Combing her long black hair. SHELLEY (CONT'D) What are gonna do if you get scared. Who are you gonna snuggle up close too?

Meg seemingly uninterested. Shelley suddenly becomes very excited. SHELLEY (CONT'D) Oh my god. I have got to show you this. Placing her leg on a waste basket. Raises her pants leg revealing a gold ankle bracelet. SHELLEY (CONT'D) Johnny bought me the cutest ankle bracelet. And look, read what it says. Grabbing the gold heart pendent attached, she reads the engraved. J and S. SHELLEY Every time I read it my heart flutter. Shelley briefly goes into a trace. SHELLEY (CONT'D) Benjamin Hoffs. What? SHELLEY Benjamin Hoffs. That's it, he would have been perfect for you. He's good looking, his parents are loaded and he has a great bod. MEG Shell, I said no thanks. I mean thanks, but no thanks. SHELLEY Meg when are you gonna loosen up? MEG When Im sixty-four. Both giggle. INT. MOVIE THEATER LOBBY - NIGHT MEG MEG

Shelley and Meg stand near a window. Meg sees a strange looking man looking at her in the distance.

He looks at Meg with one continues blank stare. Occasionally sipping from the straw of his large size soft drink cup. MEG Do you see that guy over there? Meg becoming increasingly uncomfortable. Shelley looks around the lobby. What guy? SHELLEY

Meg turns to see that the strange tall man has disappeared into the crowd. MEG He was creepy looking. Kept staring at me. SHELLEY Ooh, a secret admirer. Shell Shelley giggles. Johnny walks over holding a large box of popcorn and a large soft drink. JOHNNY You girls ready? The movie about to start. Meg looks around the lobby. SHELLEY Don't worry. Weve got Johnny to protect us. JOHNNY What are guys talking about? SHELLEY Meg saw some creep staring at her. Come on lets just go into the theater. INT. THEATER Dark, silent. MEG

House completely filled. Shelley and Johnny snuggle. Meg sits next to Shelley, eyes glued to the movie screen, nervously twirling her hair.

DIALOG FROM MOVIE WOMAN (O.S.) (Frightened) Oh my god, the line is dead. Everything is dead in this house.

A soft breeze blows through Meg's hair. At first she ignores when suddenly it happens again. Turning to look over her shoulder, she notices the strange looking man sitting third row behind her. Both make direct eye contact. Frightened, she turns back towards the screen.

MEG (Whispering) Shell, Shell.

SHELLEY (Softly) What? MEG (Whispering) He's sitting behind me.

Getting up from her seat. SHELLEY Excuse us Johnny we'll be right back. She Leads Meg out of the theater by the arm. INT. MOVIE THEATER - LOBBY SHELLEY

What are saying now? Meg increasing nervous. MEG That creepy looking guy. He's in there. He was sitting behind me. He kept blowing in my hair. Her teeth clinched. Tense look on her face. Show me. INT. - MOVIE THEATER Walking down that dark isle arriving at the third row section. The strange man is no longer sitting there. Shelley and Meg return to their seats. SHELLEY (Whispering) Well? Nervously, stumbling over her words. MEG (Whispering) He was... sitting right there a second ago. JOHNNY (Whispering) You guys just missed it. The woman opens the closet door and it was full of decapitated heads of all the previous residents. Meg increasingly nervous. SHELLEY (Whispering) Look, he's gone now. So just mellow out and enjoy the movie. Okay? Shelley snuggles up close to Johnny. She grabs his arm, placing it around her. Meg looking up at the screen. Occasionally, peering over her shoulder. SHELLEY

JOHNNY

SHELLEY What's wrong? JOHNNY I gotta take a whiz. Handing the large box of popcorn and soft drink to Shelley. JOHNNY (CONT'D) Tell me if I miss anything good. Quickly hops out of his seat. Shelley eats from the large popcorn box. Holding it in front of Meg. SHELLEY Want some? Meg shaking her head. Her attention no longer focused on the screen, she looks around the dark, crowded theater. The large crowd gasps, suddenly Meg is grabbed on her shoulder. She lets out a loud scream. YOUNG MAN I'm sorry I didn't mean to grab you. I was just scared for a minute. Shelley increasing angry. Johnny returns from the men's room.

SHELLEY (Loudly) Hey are you the creep that bothering my friend? The young man intimidated, shrinking into his seat. MEG (Whispers) Shelley. JOHNNY Hey jackass. How'd you like if I broke your jaw.

MEG (Softly) Johnny no, it's not him. The room goes quite. All attention returns to the movie screen. Looking over at Shelley. MEG (CONT'D) (Softly) Shell, I think Im going to go home. SHELLEY (Softly) Oh come on Meg. Youre gonna miss the movie. MEG (Softly) No really. I think Im gonna go. Shelley looking disappointed. SHELLEY Alright, but call me later okay? Meg gets up from her chair, making her way through the narrow isle, heads towards the theater doors. INT. MOVIE THEATER LOBBY Empty, quiet. Meg stands at a phone booth, receiver pressed against her ear. Inserts coin into slot when suddenly she is frozen with fear seeing the distorted reflection of someone standing behind her. A soft breeze blows through her hair, her eyes shut, her index finger trembling uncontrollably, unable to touch the keypad. Her eyes open. The reflection of the distorted figure no longer there. Drops the receiver. Taking deep panic breaths, she bolts back inside the movie theater. INT. MOVIE THEATER.

Silent. Suddenly the theater doors fling open. Meg feels her way down the dark isles touching everyone sitting on the end seats Johnny and Shelley are in full make out session when Meg drops into the seat next to Shelley, shaking her arm frantically. MEG (Panicking) Shelley!, Shelley! Shelley and Johnny are interrupted. SHELLEY (Sarcastically) Change your mind? MEG (Panicking) It's him. He's in the lobby. Johnny and Shelley jump to their feet. Both race out of the theater. Meg follows a few steps behind. INT. MOVIE THEATER - LOBBY Shelley and Meg stand at the phone booth section. Meg is calm but somewhat confused. MEG I was standing right here at the pay phone. I was about to call my father, when he came up right behind me. Meg presses her hands against her face. SHELLEY What if he's some serial killer that just drifted into town? MEG Shelley! SHELLEY Oh come on Meg. A serial killer in this town? God knows this place could use some kind of excitement. Meg shaking her head.

Unnerved. SHELLEY (CONT'D) You sure it him? Maybe it was just someone waiting to use the phone. MEG It was him. He was blowing in my hair. He's following me. He was sitting behind me in the theater. He must have walked out when... Johnny returns. JOHNNY There was one in the arcade room. MEG Johnny, when you went to the men's room. What did you see? Brief silence. Pondering her question. JOHNNY A row of guys with their peckers in their hands. Rolling her eyes in disgust. SHELLEY Ugh, you are completely useless. MEG Did you see anyone who looked unusual? Thinking to himself. JOHNNY Maybe. Shelley looking surprised. SHELLEY Maybe?

JOHNNY Saw a bunch of guys in there. But while I stood at the urinal, I could see someone out the corner of my eye, this guy at the far end. The guy was kind of odd looking. He definitely stood out.

MEG Did he have a scar down the side of his face? Was he wearing a green jacket? JOHNNY Like I said, I never looked over at him. So Im not really sure but, it almost seemed like he was looking over at me the whole time. SHELLEY (Sarcastically) Good work Sherlock. JOHNNY Well you didn't expect me to stare down at his unit. Johnny walks off, presumably back inside the movie theater. SHELLEY You think it was him? MEG Can we just go? SHELLEY And leave Johnny here, alone? Meg we're on a date. MEG I know I just don't feel safe leaving alone. SHELLEY I thought you were gonna call your father? Meg Picks up the receiver. Inserts a coin, then dials the number on keypad. SHELLEY (CONT'D) You should have let me fix you up with Benjamin Hoffs. Then this creep wouldn't be bothering you.

The phone rings several times. MEG Dad? Can you come pick me up at the Cinema? The voice on the other end not heard. MEG (CONT'D)

I sound frightened? Briefly looking over at Shelley. MEG (CONT'D) Oh, it's just the movie. Ok Ill be waiting. Bye dad. Hangs up the receiver. MEG (CONT'D) Hey look, Im sorry for all the trouble I caused. I hope I didn't ruin your date with Johnny. SHELLEY Meg youre my best friend. Youre never any bother. Hey, next time we double date.
