A collection of 3 short stories that are hooked together by Tim Roth and Amanda Plummer, the couple who are planning on robbing the diner. Its a bit confusing in that Tarantino doesnt tell his story in chronological order. But the idea, I believe is to make an audience concentrate and put the building blocks together ourselves. Think of it this way. The beginning of the story is really when Travolta and Jackson are taking guns out of the trunk of the car going to confront the drug dealers. The real ending is when Bruce Willis drives off on his Hog with his girlfriend. Changing the order around just make it more interesting. It allows tarantino to kill a major character off and yet have the character walk away triumphantly. Tarantino is one of those whom disagrees with the one of the Writers rule Be willing to kill your babies- meaning be willing to cut dialogue.Tarantino believes that the dialogue is one of the windows to a created characters soul. I would normally disagree but after analyzing some of his heavy dialogue scenes it became clear that his Heavy driven dialogue scenes are key to exploring the subobjectives of each character in his film. His recent work Inglorious Bastards with opening introduction Scene in Nazi, France SS general and the France farmer. This large dialogue scene knows as the Pipe Scene opens with the general and the France Farmer, Starting in French with an eventual transition into English by the general, Its seems natural but it is clear that its rather an interrogation then a friendly visit. This scene opens the audience to explore the state of mind of the general It gives the audience his intentions for the rest of film. I can think of a million films that copied his dialog style and would not exist were it not for his work, an example being Things to do in Denver When You're Dead. But there have been so many that have taken his style and made it their own, thats also something unique its opened to be emulated and gives filmmakers to build a platform to create there own style. Bernard, J. 1995. Quentin Tarantino "The man and his movies" (Bernard, 1995) goes into great detail of Tarantino lack of importance of main characters, he really doesnt have the typical hero character, Pulp fiction the main character being killed in the middle of the film is a classic example of this, this is seen again in his newer work with Inglorious bastards the bar scene having a number of main characters killed in a space of 15mins, Pulp fiction is arguable what made Tarantino, its what a story which would brand a uniqueness about it would see it to be one of the classics of the film industry. Showing that his importance of main characters doesnt exist rather, he satisfices them for the better of the story.
His Anti-Hollywood matter has given him a lot of influences in solo filmmakers by bringing new level of respect for those of us whom write their our films.. He had brought newfound mystique to the title of writer-director and is seen by many as the chief force behind his films despite the fact that he cast the best actors in the business. By eliminating the dissipation between writer and filmmaker he becomes almost entirely responsible for his film's success or failures and I think his experiences have convinced many writers across the world to direct their own films. Rob Zombie is one of those whom were influence, a once heavy metal song writer and singer turn director had been given the change to work and interstation one of the great horror classics of our time Halloween. He once quoted "Don't talk about making a film. If you want to make a film, just go do it."which became a calling card to those whom write but feel they cant direct,. This is great advice because there are a lot of young filmmakers who seem to enjoy hashing over the plot and explaining certain scenes than actually making them. Although this is a small influences it is one that echos, it shows that Taratino influences the small guys just as much as he is influence the entire film industry. Another thing is that he basically invented the pop cultural reference. Before movies had seemed like they existed in some alternate dimension where they had their own shows and movies and had no inkling of our world. Quentin changed all of this by opening Reservoir Dogs talking about how Madonna's "Like a Virgin" song is an analogy for a girl who loves large penises! He kept going from there, adding numerous references to shows we all watch and events we all know about throughout all of his films after. In Pulp Fiction they talk about McDonald's and what it is like in Amsterdam. In Kill Bill the comic Superman is seen as a critique on modern society... This is undoubtedly the most influential director working the beat today. Nothing much happens in Torrance. But occasionally you can have a bad night there-Legend on first page of the Script My Best Friends Birthday,Quentin Tarantino and Craig Hamann,c.1985 It isnt hard to see that from the faith and determination of a Hollywood outcast birth the new form of Horror genre. A man that open the doors for low budgets films to be seen in the light of the executives in studios. From his early years working in a Video store while producing and directing the low budget classic Reservoir dogs. Quantico tarantino made it clear that he stands for creativity and passion and he refuse to fall prey to the Hollywood formula but rather rebels against and bring alittle touch of himself into the Hollywood world. As a directed he is a master, but as a producer he is a god. Produced by Eli Roth, Scott Spiegel and executive producer Quentin Tarantino hostel became a gore classic that open the way to Saw and possibility the gore nature that Hollywood and the public has become to be obsess with. 28 of
December 2005 spike.com did an interview with Tarantino about the production of Hostel, The Interviewer standing next to the man himself asks him the Question I want to tell you it feels so great that you are producing and directing this movie because in Hollywood the big studios there is a lack on taking a risk. Is that why you got involved? Tarantino in his fashion reply I dont think like that, They said that place a animation scene in kill bill was riskie but I liked it 1 I think this gives a clear idea to what the type of director he is, a man whom once falls in love with a concept or idea runs with it without doubting it for a second. He also makes a second good point in this interview where he mentions the genre coming back with a vengeance this Is something that would be main stream but turns out it is. The Horror genre has be directing influence by Hostel not only with creating a more gore approach to films but for getting studios involved with foreign and low- budget films you could argue that Tarantino influence could go into Paranormal activity and the faith in something budget another interview from New York Movies published 2006 with the Director Eli Roth and Quentin Tarantino talk about the brings of the movie and the key people in making Hostel possible.
Eli, you decided to make Hostel while floating in Quentins pool, right? E.R.: I was getting offered remakes, but one day Quentin says, What are your ideas? I told him about this one movie that would be really cheap, $2 or $3 million, and completely sick. He said, Thats the sickest fucking ideamake that movie. You made it for less than $5 million. E.R.: Horror audiences dont need to see some TV actor theyre familiar with. So we said, lets keep the costs low to keep the gore high. Q.T.: One of the exciting things about Hostel is theres this kind of new horror film right now: ultraviolent, get-under-your-skin movies. Its really the first new wave since the eighties slasher filmseven the Scream movies still owed stuff to that period.
From his beginnings at the video store no one would of guess that the nerdy adult would one day become one of the film makers in the European and Western film industry, his heavy dialogue the mid angle coverage points and his impact on smaller guy, this is a man that has truly made a powerful impact from 90s to the present.
