AITS DECISION SUPPORT 4. Do I need to be aware of any defects in EDDIE/InfoView XI R3.1 or Desktop Intelligence XI R3.1? Yes, we have found a few defects. Please see Known Defects. 5. Which version of the Oracle client should we use with Desktop Intelligence R3.1? If you run Windows 7, you must install the 32 bit version of Oracle 11g client. See the Oracle llg installation instructions. If you run Windows XP, either the 10g or 11g client will work (32 bit). 6. If you do install Desktop Intelligence R3.1 on a workstation which already has Desktop Intelligence R2, is it OK to uninstall R2 after R3.1 deploys? Yes, R3.1 will not be affected if R2 is uninstalled. Please see Uninstall R2 Instructions. 7. Will there be more than one version of the install program due to operating system requirements? No, the one version of the install program we make available on the UI WebStore will install Business Objects XI R3.1 Desktop Intelligence client software on all supported operating systems. 8. How big is the Desktop Intelligence XI R3.1 install download file? The zipped install package is about 1.5 GB. 9. How long does the Desktop Intelligence XI R3.1 install take? Here are abbreviated instructions: 1. Select the "View" drop-down menu. If you see the View in HTML format button, you are already viewing the report in PDF format and may go to Step 4 here. 2. Select "PDF mode" * 3. The Report will open in PDF format 4. Select the Print icon 5. To exit PDF mode, select "View in HTML format" * NOTE: After selecting "PDF mode", some users may see a yellow bar appear above the EDDIE banner at the top of the web page with a message on the left side. If so, click the text of the message and select to activate or allow. Do not click the X on the right side of the yellow bar. 11. Will the Desktop Intelligence XI R3.1 client be able to read and write Excel 2007 and later files, i.e., .xlsx Excel files? If so, will the new Business Objects Desktop Intelligence client still continue to work with .xls files? Unfortunately, the new Desktop Intelligence client does not support .xlsx files either as data sources or as a file format in which to save a report. The new client does continue to work with .xls files. We will work with the vendor, SAP Business Objects, to find out their plans regarding .xlsx file support.

AITS DECISION SUPPORT 12. Will we still need to modify the timeout setting in regedit? Some users encountered the error message CS, job already in use. The solution involves changing some Internet Explorer and Windows workstation registry file keys to resolve timeout issues. If you have already applied this fix, you will not need to re-apply it after you install the new Desktop Intelligence client. If you have not received this error message, please do not be concerned about this issue. If you do subsequently receive the error message, please contact the AITS Service Desk. 13. Is Windows 7 SP1 a supported operating system for the Desktop Intelligence XI R3.1 client install? No, officially Windows SP1 is not supported for the new Desktop Intelligence client install. However, the lack of official support does not mean that the new Desktop Intelligence client install will not run in Windows 7 SP1. The implication of the lack of official support is that if someone running Windows 7 SP1 has a problem running the new Desktop Intelligence client install, SAP will not help us resolve the problem. 14. Where can we learn more about running 32 bit ODBC connections for Business Objects from a 64 bit Windows 7 workstation? Go to the Compatibility page and see the section Windows 7 ODBC Data Connections: 64 bit vs 32 bit 15. We run Internet Explorer 9. Will we be able to use the upgraded EDDIE? While SAP Business Objects does not officially support Internet Explorer 9 for use with the Business Objects XI R3.1 services offered through the EDDIE server, in the past we have found that later versions of browsers do work with Business Objects web services. The one caveat is that if you use a non-supported later version of a browser and do encounter problems with the Business Objects XI R3.1 services offered through the EDDIE server, we will not be able to contact SAP for help resolving those issues. 16. Will a report created in Business Objects 6.5 which was never opened in BO XI R2 be able to open in BO XI R3.1 SP3? Yes. 17. Is the BO XI R3.1 SP4 Desktop Intelligence client compatible with the Mac operating system? The only way to run the new Desktop Intelligence client on a Mac would be in a Windows emulation mode. The other alternative would be to use Web Intelligence via EDDIE, i.e., use the Business Objects web based reporting. 18. Compare and contrast the Web Intelligence XI R3.1 with the new version of the Desktop Intelligence XI R3.1 client. The short answer is that new version of Web Intelligence now is now much closer in total functionality to Desktop Intelligence.
