ardee Baroque extends a warm invitation to all to join us here in Louth to celebrate our fifth birthday. Since 2004, we have had the pleasure of hosting some of the finest Baroque musicians and singers, both at home and abroad, and this year ardee Baroque 2008 celebrates the wide diversity of Baroque music, in the company of a multitude of well-known and some lesserknown composers.
Mark Duley is no stranger to Ardee Baroque, being involved as far back as the first festival in his capacity as then-Artistic Director of Irish Baroque Orchestra. Mark will present an Organ Recital in St. Marys, Ardee on Saturday afternoon, where his programme will include works by Bach. It is a pleasure to welcome Mark back as his knowledge, support and advice has contributed greatly to the success of Ardee Baroque since its inception. The Classic Buskers are Micheal Copley and Ian Moore who, between them, play more than 40 instruments. Audiences come away from a Classic Buskers concert on a high, having both being entertained and educated, without even realising it. Their vast range of instruments is matched by a vast repertoire, and a Classic Buskers concert is an ideal way to dip your toe into the ocean of Classical and Baroque music. They will be performing two concerts in local schools, and will present a special Family concert in Ardee Castle on Saturday afternoon. This is an ideal way for parents and children to enjoy an informal afternoon of music and humour. One of Ardee Baroques strengths is the churches and castles which are used as venues, and the heritage of Ardee and Collon has been the subject of lectures and talks since the festival began. For 2008, John Rountree will deliver a lecture on the history of Collon Church of Ireland Parish Church, which links White Russian emigrs, the Victoria Cross, and the Earls of Antrim. So come and join us in Ardee, for the finest music, in evocative venues, served with a warm and friendly welcome.
Ardee Baroque is a partnership between the Arts Office of Louth County Council and the Irish Baroque Orchestra, with support from the Arts Council, Filte Ireland, Ardee Town Council and the local community.

The Irish Baroque Orchestra, with Director, Monica Huggett, present two full programmes of music collectively entitled A Baroque A to Z, which encompasses works from Albinoni to Zelenka, with a myriad of others in-between. Their two concerts, one on Friday night, one on Sunday, will both confirm and confound, as they take their audience on a journey to some well-loved locations, and to some darker, hidden corners of the Baroque world. Members of the Irish Baroque Orchestra will also be in Ardee Library on Saturday morning for their Meet the Instruments Workshop, where children from 5 to 12 years old get to hear, see and touch some unusual and valuable instruments. Continuing the celebratory theme, Ardee Baroque is delighted to welcome New York Polyphony to Louth for their first ever performance in Europe. New York Polyphony is comprised of four vocalists, all successful in their own right. Rapidly gaining a reputation as one of the finest classical vocal ensembles of a new generation, their debut CD, I Sing the Birth, was chosen as BBC Music Magazines Editors Christmas Choice for 2007. New York Polyphony will perform in the beautiful surroundings of Collon Church of Ireland on Saturday night, and their programme will include works by William Byrd, Thomas Tallis, William Cornysh, and John Taverner.
