Evaluation and Action Plan on the SLMP Georgia DOE 2010 Library Media Program Self-Evaluation Rubric

Category 1 Student Achievement and Instruction: It does not seem to be practicing any literacy programs. The school lately started implementing a Literacy Program; however, this was done by the instructional coach. The collaboration among classroom teachers and the SLMS is preferred and need to happen more often and more intensely. The collection has been analyzed and ordered new materials. The reference section has l a lot of old materials ; however, if they are weeded, new reference materials are to be placed, which due to the budget problem is right now impossible. Category 2 Staffing: We have one full time media specialist and one full time assistant. The SLMS has been assigned a hall duty during her lunch break. The media center practices a fixed schedule. For example, 6th period has been booked by math department every day until the end of the school year. This was done by the administrator; however, the laptop carts provide more access to all teachers and students. The students can not get passes from the teachers to go to the media center. Category 3 Facilities, Access, and Resources: The physical arrangement was changed this year. Desktop computers are new computers and a Promethean board has been set up in the media center. All classrooms have a Promethean board. The school web site has been beautifully renovated. The web page has more links for students and teachers to visit. Category 4 Administrative Support: The SLMS has been a part of the Leadership Meeting. The members meet every Wednesday. The SLMS was asked to come out with some kind of string reading program by the administrator. The media advisory committee has been working and policies and missions are posted at the media handbook. Category 5 Staff Development: The SLMS has been actively participating in professional learning workshops at school and at the district. Action Plan 1. Collaboration among teachers and the SLMS should happen on regular basis. : The SLMS needs to be more actively involved among department meetings on regular basis. The recent success article Stop failing school from failing says staffing books to where kids are. Our media center may need to do something like that, especially in the situation the students can nit get passes to go to the media center. 2. School Library Media Program should be developed. : The wall needs to display students read posters to create student-centered atmosphere. More information literacy information needs to be posted on the bulletin board. The Destiny data base has not been used actively. The ways to get more students involved in reading is crucial and this needs to be done. New collections are not introduced. The SLMS can visit Language Arts classroom and advertize the new arrivals to activate students interests.

The after school time can be more actively used to get more students involved in reading and enhancing reading strategies. As an overall, the yearly media center program needs to be developed with monthly events and details.
