Thesouthends Premier Rental Facility
Tukwilas AWARD-winning Community Center hosts tens of thousands of guests annually for a
variety of special occasions. We can accommodate groups up to 500 people, with amenities
that include banquet facilities, large kitchen, gymnasium, classrooms, and ample free onsite
parking. Our convenient access to major freeways makes our location easy to find for your
guests. Beautifully set along the Green/Duwamish River with Mt. Rainier in the background
creates an attractive setting for your event.
Reservations are accepted up to 12 months in advance, and Tukwila Residents are eligible for

It is hard to believe that 2012 is already here! In our busy world, its
easy to set aside the importance of finding time each day for health and
wellness. Tukwila Parks & Recreation is dedicated to providing opportuni-
ties for you to be active and lead a good, healthy, fun lifestyle. Tukwilas
outstanding recreational activities, events, and facilities have all been
designed to improve quality of life by helping you stay healthy and fit,
develop lasting relationships with family and friends, and foster a sense
of community.
This winter, I encourage you to take a walk along the Green River Trail, play
a round of golf at Foster Golf Links, sign up for a fitness class, learn to
swim, explore a park, or volunteer in your community.
In this guide, youll find information covering upcoming recreation
programs and events as well as information about Foster Golf Links,
Tukwila Pool schedules, and a guide to Tukwilas Parks. Our professional
and experienced staff is here to help develop recreational opportunities
for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds; so please share your

Meet-up, Have Fun, Do Good!
You dont have to go far, to do good! Are you interested in volunteering,
but dont know where to start? Join us for these fun volunteer outings ~
individuals and families are encouraged to participate. We coordinate a
variety of volunteer opportunities with local or regional organizations that
utilize volunteers to make a difference in the community. Be a part of
this fun and unique opportunity and reap the benefits of doing good for
others and your community.
Please note that some destinations have age limitations for volunteers
and may require special parental permissions call for more information.
Advanced registration is required and helps to ensure enough volunteers
for the designated project - minimum of 6 volunteers is required or the
project may be canceled.

Environmental Restoration Volunteer Events
@Duwamish Hill Preserve
Join volunteers to help restore this culturally significant park preserve.
Activities include mulching, planting, and other restoration projects and
are family friendly. Contact us for our current work party schedule. We will
gladly arrange for corporate groups or schools upon request. For

Healthy You Healthy Earth 5K
Saturday, April 21st
Bring your friends, family and neighbors to Tukwila for some GOOD, HEALTHY,
FUN for YOU and the EARTH! Participate in the inaugural 5k Fun Run and
Walk along the beautiful Green River Trail. After youve raised your heart
rate, participate in ongoing restoration efforts along the Green River Trail
plant a tree or shrub in honor of yourself and your dedication to caring for
your health as well as the health of our planet.

Tukwila Sister Cities
Delegation trip to Japan!
The Tukwila Sister Cities Committee is looking for
Showalter Middle School students interested in
travelling to Japan in the Spring 2012 (Tukwila
School District Spring Break). On this trip you will
have the opportunity to learn about life in Japan, and how customs, food,
culture, community and schools differ outside the United States.
Cost for the trip is approximately $2,500, and covers the cost of airfare, all
land transportations, hotels, some meals, and admissions to various activi-
ties. Delegates will need some individual spending money for some meals
and souvenirs.
Interested students and their parents are invited to attend
an informational meeting in the library at Showalter Middle
School on Wednesday, January 11th from 6:00-7:30pm.

Volunteer Appreciation Ice Cream Social

We invite current, past and future volunteers to join us for this annual volunteer appreciation

stay in the building at all times and must fill out appropriate registration paperwork to be kept on file.

Youth Dance Classes
Pre-Ballet for Little Ballerinas
Start your princess dancing! Watch as she warms up at the barre, learns all five
of the ballet positions and practices her twirls and leaps across the floor. Please

Dancers with little to no experience learn to apply the intricacy of ballet foot
work in 8 -16 count adagios as well as maintaining the grace and poise of a bal-

This energetic class is for dancers who are ready to have fun and get their

Introducing. NicoleKostov- DanceInstructor
Nicole has been dancing since she was 5 years old. She has been
training through schools such as Northwest Ballet Center, Studio One,
Bellevue College and The Connection in Mukilteo. She loves working
with kids and is excited to share her passion of dancing with your little
dancers too! She firmly believes that, There is no such thing as too
early or too late to start pursuing what you love.

What can you do with all those lonely socks that have lost their mates?
Use them to make monsters and other stuffed toys! Well cut them up and

Read Three, Get One Free is a book-review-and-reward program FOR TEENS
available at any KCLS community library. Participating middle and high school

Join us as one of Seattles top High School coaches and basketball skills trainers,
Granville Emerson, will run a 2-day camp during Spring Break. Players will work

Hot Spot is a basketball skills competition which
involves shooting from five Hot Spots marked on a basketball
court. The competition tests the young athletes all-around
basketball skills in a series of one-minute periods. This event
is open to all boys and girls ages 7-14. The top finisher in each

sponsored by the Washington Recreation and Parks Association.

Fitness Fusion
Fitness fusion is an innovative Yoga and Pilates based workout with elements of

Adult Sports
Tukwila Parks and Recreation Department hosts several adult sports leagues.
Leagues are perfect for a group of friends, neighbors, co-workers, or family.
Participants must be 18 years of age and older. Registration accepted per team only.
Individuals wishing to play can call TCC to submit their name, sport, and level of play

Adult Volleyball League
Adult COED Volleyball leagues are offered three (3) times throughout the year. All
games are played at TCC on Tuesday nights at 6:00, 6:45, and 7:30pm. Teams play
two matches of three games per night. Level of play is Recreational (non-spiking)
and the league is self officiated (call your own). Teams must have 3 women on the
court at all times. Teams play 20 league matches - no playoffs. Teams must have
50%or more residents on the roster to qualify for the resident discount.

Skagit Eagle Watch
Natures splendor as few have seen it! Each winter, up to 300 Bald Eagles congregate in
the Skagit Preserve. With wingspans of up to seven feet, the eagle is truly majestic from

born and raised in Seattle, and has been studying piano since childhood.

We provide transportation for many of our programs for
non-driving seniors living within the Tukwila service area.
TRANSPORTATION IS PROVIDED FOR CITY-SPONSORED ACTIVITIES
ONLY. We do not provide personal transportation to places such
as doctors appointments or bingo halls. If you need shopping
services, please see our Friday Van Service.
Registration
The registration deadline for classes and workshops is one (1)
week in advance, unless otherwise noted. An updated monthly
calendar is available at the Center.
Lunch Program
The Duwamish Curve Caf is open to the public from 11:00am
to 12:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Delicatessen style
sandwiches, soups, salads and fresh baked treats are available
at a reasonable cost.
Meals on Wheels
Tukwila Parks and Recreation is part of King Countys Meals on
Wheels program, delivering meals weekly to the homebound.
Orders are taken on Mondays between 9 and 10am. Meals are
delivered on Thursdays between 911am. Call Jamie King to

Pet Food Program
If you are interested in receiving free pet food for your
canine or feline friend, please contact Jamie King for an

Foot Care
Foot care is available on the third Thursday of each month.

Red Hat Society
The Duwamish Divas chapter of the Red Hat Society
is having a wonderful time. The only responsibility that
the Red Hat Society has is for each chapter to have fun.
The Duwamish Divas takes that responsibility very
seriously! This group provides an opportunity for those
who have shouldered various responsibilities at home
and in the community, to say goodbye to their burdens.
Its a chance to have fun with no rules! The group
travels the second Thursday of each month. Please

All trip destinations and times are subject to change.
Participants are responsible for being at TCC in time for
departure. The Tukwila Senior Program will only notify
clients if there is a change in time from what is stated in the
brochure. All trips will RETURN to TCC no later than 4:00 pm
unless otherwise noted.
RESERVATIONS MUST BE MADE IN PERSON OR BY PHONE. Trip fees
must be PAID UPON REGISTRATION. Make check/money orders
payable to Tukwila Community Center. You may register yourself
and one other person for any program/trip in this brochure.
Registrations may start early for certain trips, please review
special conditions noted in the trip description.
Due to the number of people on the trips, group reservations are
usually made for lunch. If you dont want to eat lunch with the
group, please inform staff at the time of your reservation. When
lunch is included in the trip, please inform staff of any dietary
restrictions you may have and we will try to accommodate your
needs.
Cancellations
To receive a refund, cancellations must be made one week prior
to the trip. Extended trip cancellation deadlines may vary, please

Swim Lesson Policies
Please make sure your child has
been introduced to the pool setting
and feels somewhat comfortable
in the water prior to registering for
lessons. Family swims are excellent
for this exposure. If you have doubts
about committing to a full session,
then private lessons may be helpful
in determining your childs readi-
ness for group lessons.
Refunds will be given (minus a
$5.00 processing fee) for program
withdrawals before the first day of
class. Once the session begins,
a maximum of of the session
fee will be refunded, for medical
reasons only. Requests must be
accompanied by doctors note.
Prorated fees may be given after the
session has begun. This will only
be done during the first week and
based on availability.
Class changes may not be possible.
Students will be challenged at their
personal level in current class.
Minimum class is three (3) students.
Maximum class size is six (6)
students. Class levels may be
combined in order to offer the class.
Instructor requests are not guaran-
teed; substitute instructors may be

Private Lessons
Private swimming lessons can give your child the 1-on-1 attention they need to get
comfortable with the water or to perfect a stroke. Instructors are trained to work with
student on skills from beginning to advanced stroke techniques. Private lessons are
scheduled based on instructor availability. Semi-Private lessons are also available.
Private Lessons: $25 for 30 minutes
Semi-Private Lessons: $30 for 30 minutes for 2 students

Water Aerobics
Water Aerobics provides low-impact, challenging workout for a diverse population!
Exercises are performed in waist to chest deep water. Strength and cardio training
compose bulk of class. Included also are stretching exercises and abdominal toning.

GAMBA
Join instructor Brian Gamble for this high intensity low impact water aerobics class.
Participants of any skill level can come and groove to the music, get their heart

Balance & Flexibility Class
This water based class is designed to help participants maintain flexibility and
improve balance. Participants can expect to do controlled motions through the water
while focusing on posture, balance and core stability. This class is open for all ages
and levels of mobility, and is specifically tailored for individuals coping with Multiple
Sclerosis or Arthritis. No swimming experience is required.

Lifeguard Training
Interested in becoming a lifeguard? This course will give you the skills you need
to be a lifeguard. Pre-requisites include minimum age of 15 be end of course and
pass skills pre-test on first day which includes a 300 yard swim; and swim 20
yards, retrieve a 10 pound weight from a depth of 7-10 feet, and return to the side
within 1 minute 40 seconds. Students are required to purchase American Red Cross
Lifeguard Manual and Pocket Mask before the start of class. If you have questions

Registration Policies
Recreation is for Everyone! Everyone
in Tukwila should have the
opportunity to participate in, benefit
from, and enjoy parks and recreation
facilities. We are dedicated to
enriching the lives of all persons
participating in Tukwila Parks and
Recreation programs. If you are
interested in a class or program,
but hesitate to register because of a
developmental or physical limitation,
please contact Dave Johnson at
206-768-2822 for assistance.
Reasonable accommodations for
special needs require a minimum
of three weeks notice in advance of
the program start date. Participants
needing individual assistance to
participant in programs, including
toileting, transferring, eating,
dressing, or behavior intervention
must bring an attendant/companion
to the program.
Resident Fees
We are pleased to be able to offer
Tukwila Residents a REDUCED fee
for nearly all of our programs and
activities. Please note that the
Resident Fee is the lower fee and
typically highlighted. To qualify for
the reduce Resident Rate, you must
be able to provide verification of
residency in Tukwila.
Registration
Most programs and activities
have a minimum and/or maximum
enrollment to ensure a quality
experience for all participants.
Please register at least 5 business
days in advance (payment must be
received at time of registration).
Programs and activities may be
cancelled (or combined) due to low
enrollment.
Scholarships
Available for Tukwila area Youth,
Teen, and Senior Adults to participate
in many of the programs offered
by Tukwila Parks and Recreation.
Income and residency restrictions
apply. Information and applications
are available at the Tukwila
Community Center.
Gender Equity Statement
The city of Tukwila complies with the
State of Washingtons Fair Play in
Community Sports Act that prohibits
discrimination against any person in
a community athletics program on
the basis of gender. Please direct
questions and comments to Dave
Johnson, Recreation Superintendent.
Inclement Weather
Tukwila Parks and Recreation
programs follow the Tukwila School
Districts Weather Advisory. If
the School District is closed, all
Recreation and Pool programs will be
cancelled. If children have already
arrived, parents will be notified to
pick up their children immediately.
If School District is delayed in
opening, Recreation and Pool
programs will also be delayed.
Please call the facility for up-to-date
program information. Inclement
weather can also affect park use and
trail conditions. Please use caution
when visiting parks and trails during
poor weather.
Refunds
Your satisfaction is important to us.
If you are not completely satisfied
with a program or activity, you may
request a refund. All refund requests
must be in writing. Refunds are
subject to pro-rated amounts. A
$5.00 processing fee will be
deducted from refund amounts. Full
refunds will be issued if we cancel
a program due to low enrollment.
Camps, rentals, leagues, and other
activities may have different refund
policies please refer to that
specific program information.
