LLWAS SYSTEM for AIRPORT

*optional items delete as required.

1.

GENERAL TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The system shall utilize an array of ground based wind sensors to detect wind shear conditions at the airport and issue Wind Shear warnings. The wind shear detection algorithm shall be the NCAR Phase 3 Wind Shear detection Algorithm.. The power consumption of system shall be low; Outdoor equipments shall be guarded and protected against environmental effects such as solar radiation, ground heat sources, stagnated rain water and frost, dust, insects etc. Power supply: Solar power or mains at each sensor
-

Obstruction Light Solar Powered to ICAO requirements The system shall be protected against damage due to power supply variation and lightning X ultrasonic wind sensors shall be located at the sites on the airfield according to the siting guidelines published by the FAA, in document 6560.21A . A site survey shall be carried out to determine the layout of the sensor array and the mast heights.

Sensor Specifications Sensor type

Wind Speed Wind Direction

Specification
Ultrasonic, Range 0-120Knots Resolution 1 knot, or 1 knot whichever is less. Accuracy +-1%

Ultrasonic, Range 1-360 degrees, Resolution 1 degrees , Accuracy +-3 degrees

Sensor Masts.
The towers shall be of free standing construction and rated for duty at the sites determined in
the site survey, Loading and foundation design shall be to ANSI Standard ANSI/TIA/EIA 222 and based on soil reports and verified foundation design by qualified civil engineer.

The tower shall include a lowering mechanism for the instrument payload, or shall be capable of tilting to access the fixed instrument payload. The towers shall be of a height determined during the site survey. . The tower shall be painted with alternating bands of aviation orange and white. The band widths shall be 1/7 of the height of the tower and perpendicular to the vertical axis of the tower with the bands at each end colored orange. Colors as follows: A. Orange Number 12197 (Aviation Surface Orange)

B. White Number 17875 (Aviation White) The tower shall be primed in accordance with the manufacturers specifications prior to painting.

Site Equipment
An enclosure at each site within the airfield shall collect data from the wind sensor and incorporate solar power supply and wireless communications to the Computer Server at the central site. Each sensor shall be capable of configuration at the site, the server or a Technical Maintenance position and be easily expandable to add more sensors of the same type

Data Links Equipment

Communications to the central site shall be by Fibre or wireless * data communication standard for transmitting wind data from the tower and sensors to the server

Computer Server
The computer server shall run the NCAR LLWAS Phase 3 wind shear detection algorithm. The LLWAS server shall be compatible with and run in conjunction with the AWOS system at the airport.

*Option 1:

Non redundant:

A single Server shall operate with Windows* Linux* operating system license and shall run an application program and SQL data base server for management and storage of sensor data and processing of the data for presentation to the various users.

*Option 2:

Redundant servers:

A dual hot standby shall be supplied with Windows* Linux* operating system license and shall run an application program and SQL data base server for management and storage of sensor data and processing of the data for presentation to the various users.

Additional Interfaces:
The DCU shall have an interface to the AWOS to report wind shear warnings The DCU shall have an interface to an NTP Time Server via the network.
