The Luis Andrs Colmenares Case

Accident? Murder? was colmenares drunk?, lost or just slightly "inebriated"? The defendants are silent because they participated in the crime because he concealed something big or because they have nothing to do with the facts? And above all, who killed Luis Andres Colmenares?

Luis Andrs Colmenares Escobar (May 23, 1990, Villanueva, Colombia October 31, 2010,Bogot D.C., Colombia) was an Economics and Industrial Engineering mayor student at Los Andes University in Bogot D.C. - Colombia, who was found dead in confusing circumstances on October 31, 2010, after going to a Halloween Party at a club in the popular "Zona Rosa" in Bogota. Initial investigations explained Luis Andres death as a result of a suicide, but almost year later prosecutors found enough evidence to consider that Colmenares didn't committ suicide, but rather was murdered. Ten months after Luis's death, the investigation re-opened and suspects were named in the case.

Facts On October 30, 2010, Luis Andres, his date that evening (Laura Moreno), Jessy Quintero and other friends and classmates went to a Halloween costume party at Penthouse night club in the PopularZona Rosa in Bogota, Colombia. According to Moreno and Quintero, they left the party around 3:15 a.m. local time on October 31. Luis was very anxious and he went out walked away. Yessy and Laura followed him and Luis allegedly said he was feeling hungry, so the three of them went to get a bite to eat while the rest of the group went to get Laura's SUV from the parking lot. Moreno and Quintero later told law enforcement after buying a hot dog, all of a sudden and without any explanation, Colmenares stated to run "like crazy" [4] towards El Virrey park which was about 10 minutes walking distance

from the hot dog stand. Jessy allegedly stayed at the hot dog stand waiting for her friends and Laura followed after Luis. According to Laura, after she tried to stop him several times, Luis jumped into a drain located at El Virrey park. After Jessy is picked up by the group of friends, she calls Luis Andres' cell phone and Laura picks up. Laura is frantic and tells her that Luis jumped in the drift and that she can't see him anymore.[5]

El Virrey Drift Supposedly, the group of friends met Laura at the park and started looking for Luis. After a couple of hours of not finding him, they sought police help at a station nearby. They also alerted Luis' family and the formal search began. Luis' mother, Oneida Escobar, went to the park to look for her son, after not finding him anywhere. She initially started looking in hospitals and police stations. In the meantime, the police and firemen were conducting an exhaustive search around the area without any results. Around 6 p.m. on Oct. 31, Oneida Escobar begged the firemen and police officer to look again under the drift where, according to Moreno, Colmenares jumped. Finally around 9 p.m. the firemen found the dead body of Colmenares about 400' feet away from where Moreno said Luis jumped. The body was taken to the Colombian National Legal Medicine Institute for further evaluation. The result of the first autopsy, showed Colmenares had a grade 3 of alcohol intoxication and confirmed the hypothesis of a suicide. Under this concept, the case was closed. The authorities originally concluded Luis Andres' death was due to a suicide, however, the Colmenares family never accepted that theory. Almost a year later the case prosecutor and authorities have dismissed the suicide thesis. Back in October 2011, Laura Moreno and Yessy Quintero were arrested. According to the prosecutors' office there is "strong evidence" that allow them to infer that these two young women participated in the murder of Luis Andres Colmenares.[6]

Oneida Escobar, Luis Andres Colmenares mother said in an interview with Caracol Radio and Caracol News in dreams that his son told him not to look elsewhere, because the proof was in hisbody.5 This argument failed to convince both her husband LuisColmenares as the prosecution of a second autopsy conducted bythe forensic expert Ruben Dario angle in which unscheduled detailsfound in the first autopsy.

Luis Andres Colmenares was the 'devil'. That was the costume for the party chose Halloween night in which he and other colleaguesfrom the University of Los Andes programmed in a bar in the Zona Rosa of Bogota called on October 30, 2010.
