Great Lakes Independent Insurance takes

The agency which provides auto, life,
homeowners, and commercial insurance
recently moved to Orion Township,
December 2008. Though theyre the new
kids on the block, they have been in business
since 1996 formerly located on the East
side. The Orion location enables Great
Lakes Independent to represent many top
rated insurance companies.
Because Lake Orion is less saturated with
similar agencies in comparison to other
metro-Detroit areas, Great Lakes
Independent is attractive to a bigger number
of insurance providers. More providers
mean more rate shopping and lower rates
a good thing for customers.
If we were a smaller agency, we would
not be able to represent as many quality
insurance companies as we do, said
Hutton. The agency in turn passes the
savings and the convenience of one stop
insurance shopping onto its customers.

Hutton said. If one company shifts
markets and is not trending well, were able
to shop a rate for our customers.
Though customers could end up with a
different insurance provider they still have
the same Great Lakes Independent

according to Hutton.

a relationship. No matter which insurance

working for you day in and day out, and
thats nice, he said.
Hutton comes from a captive
background in insurance and noted that
when rates shifted higher, it was often
painful for customers.
Here, we are able to retain customers
at renewal if their current company has an
increase we can shift from one insurance
company to another, he said. That
benefits customers because we can shop
for them to find a cheaper rate. They can
make one phone call instead of five or six.
