How can training help companies deal with these forces?

Forces affecting workplace and Learning:

Globalization Increased value placed on intangible assets and human capital Focus on link to business strategy Attracting and retaining talent Customer service and quality emphasis Changing demographics and diversity of the work force New technology High-performance models of work systems Economic changes Training can help companies deal with these forces by preparing employees of companies to first understand the what the forces are that are their biggest challenge, second for each force determine what strategies and processes would best handle that force, third ensure proper knowledge is obtained, and retained within the corporation. 2. What steps are included in the training design model? What step do you think is most important? Why? 1) Analysis 2) Design 3) Development 4) Implementation 5) Evaluation In my opinion, the Analysis step is the most important. It is almost impossible to design and develop systems without the proper analysis of the needs, and desired end state. 3. What are intangible assets? How do they relate to training and development? Intangible assets are assets that cannot be measured via monetary means and cannot be touched. Assets such as Human Capital is a very key element in most businesses, therefore training and development in improving, motivating, and retaining this asset is crucial to the businesses survival. 4. Which of the training professionals' roles do you believe is most difficult to learn? Which is easiest? I think the most difficult role to learn is business partner, and learning strategist is the easiest. 5. How might technology influence the importance of training professionals' roles? Can technology reduce the importance of any of the roles? Can it result in additional roles? Technology can influence the importance of training roles by providing easier access and delivery of the

subject material for each role. I dont think it will reduce the importance of any of the roles but make them more efficient. 6. Describe the training courses that you have taken. How have they helped you? Provide recommendations for improving the courses. Ive had the following types of training courses: Software design, development and programming Supervisor / Management Skills Personal Leadership Public Speaking Project Management Proprietary Software Training (Oracle, PeopleSoft, SoftScape) These courses were and still are essential in my current position. 7. What are the implications of the aging work force? What strategies should companies consider from a training and development perspective to best utilize older employees and prepare for their retirement? The aging workforce has many implications but the most pressing is the loss of knowledge and leadership in the business. Companies should consider training strategies that include using these older employees in mentoring, and coaching roles to provide and transfer knowledge to the younger employees.
