I would like to bring to your kind information that the Department of


Industries and Commerce have set up the following five Laboratories.

Chemical Testing and Analytical Laboratory, Chennai is rendering


commendable service in the evaluation of quality and standardization for
more than 5 decades by providing comprehensive test facilities to various
types of industries and the other 4 Regional Laboratories are also engaged in
the same field for more than 25 years. These Laboratories are fully equipped
with all necessary equipments and sophisticated instruments to carry out all
types of analysis including specialized tests on all raw materials and finished
products like alloys, steel, cement, paints and other building materials, ores
and minerals, oils etc. The samples and other materials received for testing
are tested within a stipulated period as per time schedule and the test

certificates are issued then and there. The testing charges are collected at
the rates fixed by the Government. The SSI Units are given 50% concession
towards testing fees. A list showing the various tests that are taken up by the
laboratories with rates for the tests is enclosed.

The Chemical Testing and Analytical Laboratory, Guindy is recognized


by Bureau of Indian Standards and the services of this laboratory is utilized
by the Director General of Supplies and Disposals, Railways, Engineers India
Limited and Defence Departments.

It has been observed that the testing facilities available in the above
Laboratories are not fully utilized by the Government Departments. Therefore
I request you to kindly advise your subordinate officers under your control to
make use of the testing facilities available in the Laboratories mentioned
above to the maximum extent possible.

A copy of the instructions issued to your Subordinate Departmental


Officers in this matter may kindly be sent to the Joint Director (Chemicals),
Chemical Testing and Analytical Laboratory, Guindy, Chennai - 32 so as to
enable us to contact them to proceed further in this matter.
