Brotherly Love

Brotherly Love The foundation of the nonviolent movement is based on the principle of love. All principles and aspects of nonviolence are derived from love, for if one has no love in ones heart for ones fellow creatures, one will find it incredibly difficult to extend compassion towards the same. I truly believe that compassion is nothing more than love in action, or a manifestation thereof. One of course might ask oneself, what is love, love is defined by the Merriam-Websters dictionary as Unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another: as (1): the fatherly concern of God for humankind (2) : brotherly concern for others (Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, 2009). Albert Pike however, defines it more esoterically and poetically in Morals and Dogma in the following manner Love is our best pilot, confederate, supporter, and saviour ; the ornament and governor of all things human and divine(1966, p. 692) All Ascended Masters and great teachers of humanity have taught and promoted the Law of Love in some way shape or form. Siddhrtha Gautama more commonly known as The Buddha stated Hatred does not cease by hatred but only by love, this is the eternal rule (BrainyMedia.com, 2009). Jesus of Nazareth also known as the Christ said This is my commandment, that you love one another just as I have loved you. No one has love greater than this, that someone should surrender his soul on behalf of his friends (New World Bible Translation Committee, 1984, p. 1351). The prophet Mohamed dictated that Perfect love for God requires perfect peace with man; hence no offence should be caused to any man (Ali, 2002, p. 89). Gandhi taught that whenever you are confronted with an opponent, conquer him with love (Kotelnikov, 2009). The practical application of the principle of love is perhaps best explained by the Chinese sage Lao Tzu born Li Erh, who wrote, See the

Brotherly Love

world as your self. Have faith in the way things are. Love the world as yourself, then you can care for all things (Lao-Tzu, 2006). But just as the Old Sage is noted as stating above, one can only have compassion and truly care for all things once one has learned to love all things as ones self or a part of ones self. All the above mentioned teachers and reformers, however have introduced nothing new to humanity, theyve done nothing more than reintroduce humanity to its own Primitive Truth once again. One of the earliest if not the earliest mention of the law of love in the Judaic tradition is found in the third book of canonical Jewish and Christian Scripture consisting mainly of priestly legislation, this book offers the following quote from the All Mighty Him Self Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD (New World Bible Translation Committee, 1984, p. 1351). As we now see, the Law or Principle of Love is indispensable for peace and social justice, and is the ideal prescription for both preventing and solving conflicts. The Law or Principle of Love can be applied to international, regional, local, community and personal conflicts. I for one, cant help but think what the world would be like if the whole of humanity decided to be conscious of the fact the we are all ONE a part of a whole by way of our shared Devine nature, by way of our Soul or Spirit, if you would. It is my hope that one day humanity will fully acknowledge, honor and respect our common brotherhood under the fatherhood of the All Mighty God. One can only wonder how long ago the ArabIsraeli conflict would have been solved if both the Arabs and the Israelis focused on their common heritage and viewed each other with the fraternal love that all human beings should have for one another, but particularly those so close akin as the children of Abraham, and consequently extended the due compassion to each other. How much

Brotherly Love

suffering could be spared, how prosperous would the region in question be, one can only speculate. One can only help but wonder if husbands and wives would be willing to hurt each other if they realized that their common bonds as human and consequently partially Divine beings extends far beyond their bonds of marriage. The Law of love as expressed by the Christ Love one another, for that is the whole Law is so important that renowned Luciferians such as Aleister Crowley have gone out of their way to attempt to pervert and/or invert the Law of Love. Crowley is infamous amongst many other things for the following two quotes which form the basis of his religion Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law and Love is the law, Love UNDER Will (Ordo Templi Orientis, 2009) I for one, would go as far as equating principles such as Non-Violence or Ahimsa directly to love, as I believe that without Love, Ahimsa a form of compassion cannot be as compassion can be forced upon people by way of fear as religion usually does e.g. If you sin you will go to hell or If you do harm you will reincarnate in a lower life form, etc. But true and sustainable compassion can only be achieved through understanding and acceptance of the Universal Brotherhood of the Creation under the Fatherhood of God. Ahimsa is defined in the Bhagavad-Gita as follows: Ahimsa, nonviolence, means that one should not do anything which will be put others into misery or confusion. Material activities that are promised by so many politicians, sociologists, philanthropists, etc., do not produce very good results because the politicians and philanthropists have no transcendental vision; they do not know what is actually beneficial for human society. Ahimsa means that people should be trained in such a way that the full utilization of the human body can be

Brotherly Love

achieved. The human body is meant for spiritual realization, so any movement or any commissions which do not further that end commit violence on the human body. That which furthers the future spiritual happiness of the people in general is called nonviolence (Prabhupada, 1994, p. 511). Given that True Love and Sustainable Compassion can only be achieved through Awareness of the aforementioned brotherhood of the Creation, thus I believe it to be the constant mandate not only of the initiated, but of all those that through their own means have achieved awareness to inform and educate their less enlightened brethren as to the reality of our Divine nature and consequential duty to compassion to all creation. The result of this sharing and teaching would prevent and resolve all human conflicts if properly applied. The previous however is not possible given that there are opposing ideologies directed and supported by opposing forces, so in this reality the most we can hope for is Equilibrium, perhaps Equilibrium, is the best we are meant to achieve in this world, or so we must believe if we are to believe in the infallible and perfect nature of the All Mighty Creator God. In the end, perhaps only Love can save us.
