Health Trivia. Congratulations to Jake and his wife, Kim on the new addition to their growing family. Speaking of Mental Trivia, I would like to address a question that comes up time and time again. What does Jake do with all that trivia money? The money that is collected from Mental Health Trivia is collected at the front desk. Chris VanHyning, the HOAs administrative assistant, deposits money into the bank on a weekly basis. The revenue is recorded in the Fitness Department. What does it pay for? The first thing it pays for is the trivia prize money, then along with other revenue generated from the Fitness Department from wellness seminars, paid group fitness classes and fitness events, the money is used to pay for expenses to run the department; staff payroll, taxes and benefits, group fitness instructors, fitness supplies, cardio headphones, first aid supplies, fitness props, preventative maintenance contract for the equipment and miscellaneous fitness related expenses. So the revenue generated from trivia is merely satisfying the budgeted revenue in the Fitness department, rather than creating an unexpected windfall. The Fitness Department is budgeted in 2012 to bring in $60,825 in revenue from all sources (including trivia) and pay out expenses of $193,166 for a budgeted loss of ($132,341). The Developer, Pulte Homes, per the CC&Rs pays any operating shortfalls and covers the operating losses of the entire HOA, including the Fitness Department. The Finance Committee reviews the financial statements on a monthly basis. I hope to see at the Union Center soon participating in activities and enjoying our great community. For those of you leaving us before the heat, safe travels and well see you in the fall.

Tennis Court Hours & Usage Procedures

The Tennis Courts for all Merrill Ranch residents located at the Parkside Community Center are buzzing with activity. We have a very strong tennis program for all ages and our racket sport enthusiasts are taking advantage of our great weather. With the continued growth of our tennis programs and increased usage of the courts along with unfortunate vandalism of the equipment, the Management Team has reviewed the current procedures for using the courts and has deemed it necessary to update them. Starting April 1, 2012, the courts will be open and be available for use during the Parkside Community Center hours. You will no longer need to check out a key as the gates to the courts will be open in the mornings and closed down at night by staff. The lights for the courts will also be scheduled to operate during the center hours. The courts will continue to open on a first-come first-serve basis with a 2 hour limit per group using the court. If there is no one waiting to use the courts, then the 2 hour limit can be extended until another group needs the court. However, courts will continue to be reserved for Association sponsored events and programs. Please work with the front desk staff of Parkside if you have any specific questions about court availability and usage.

Message from the Executive Director

Happy Spring to all! For those of you who were able to come out and enjoy our Spring Festival on March 10th, thank you for your support of our community and I hope you enjoyed the day. We certainly raised the bar once again, and finally our weather cooperated for one of our large events. Maybe the curse is finally broken. This years Spring Festival was bigger and better than any event weve done as an HOA with 4,000+ attending throughout the day. A big thanks to Christine Reeder, Lifestyle Director from our Anthem Parkside community for putting this event together, with help from the leadership team. A very special Thank You to all of our wonderful volunteers who always come through in a big way. We could not pull off such professional events without you. Dont miss our Concert in the Park series that starts April 28 with the Missouri Opry. Well enjoy music under the stars in our wonderful amphitheater at the community park. Pat and Judy continue to come up with fun events, bus trips and activities to keep you busy. Although Jake is busy with his new baby, McKenzie Anne Hoffman, born on Friday March 16th at 8lbs and 20-1/4 inches, he will be back at the Union Center soon to keep you fit and healthy, and of course hosting the every popular Mental

Thank You!
A BIG Thank You goes out to Sharon Haugen and Yvonne Nathanson for taking on a beautification and protection project for the Lifestyle staff. For two years, weve been talking about how to dress up our trash cans for special events held in the ballroom. Weve also been trying to come up with a nice way to protect our beautiful piano from damage by guitar cases, music racks, beverages or anything else that might end up on top of it. Anything we saw on-line was too expensive to be practical. Thanks to the creativity and sewing expertise of Sharon and Yvonne our trash cans will be dressed for special events and in the next few months the piano will have a padded (quilted) cover to protect its beautiful finish. Not only did they save the HOA money by designing and making the covers, were confident these will last longer than any we might have purchased. Sharon and Yvonne are perfect examples of residents who eagerly give of their time and talents to help the community. They do it proudly and unselfishly without any expectations. Help us thank them with a reward of well-deserved recognition and gratitude.

Recycling Update
The Recycling Program at Sun City is experiencing some changes. In March the 4 recycling bins located on Spirit Way by the water tank, near Liberty, were moved to the first Spirit Way across the street from the Community Garden. This change will continue until the end of April. At the end of April the mixed material program will be discontinued. These materials include the plastic bottles and jugs and the metal cans. Abitibi, the program provider, can no longer absorb the losses incurred due to high operating costs of this program. The mixed material bins will be removed at the end of April and the paper/ cardboard containers will be moved to the Union Center. If you wish to continue to recycle the mixed materials you can do so by taking the plastics and aluminum/ metal cans and also glass to two drop off points in Florence. Either the Main Street Park on 22nd Street in Florence or the Pinal County Recycling Transfer Station on Adamsville Road in Florence will accept these materials anytime of the day.
