/Upgrade of the SAP R/3 Plug-In 2004.1 and SAP Basis Plug-In 2004.

1
Flexible Component Architecture in Real Time
General Information
The SAP R/3 Plug-In enables integration between SAP R/3/SAP R/3 Enterprise and SAP APO/SAP SCM, SAP BW, SAP BBP/SAP EBP/SAP SRM und SAP CRM, and supports all releases of these components that are currently in maintenance. PI_BASIS is an add-on which can be installed on a SAP Web Application Server or any other product which is based on SAP_BASIS 620 and SAP_ABA 620 or higher. As of SAP R/3 Enterprise 47x110, the SAP R/3 Plug-In requires the SAP Basis Plug-In. Therefore you have to install the SAP Basis Plug-In PI_BASIS 2004.1 in addition to PI 2004.1. PI 2004.1 is the last SAP R/3 Plug-In which is delivered for the SAP R/3 releases 3.1I to 4.6B. The integration of SAP components (e.g. SAP APO / SAP SCM, SAP BW etc.) will also work in the future; that is the integration functionality of PI 2004.1 will also work with new SAP components that will be released in 2005 or 2006 only. However, new integration functions of the SAP components will not be available for these SAP R/3 releases. Please note that SAP does not provide a PI-A version for the SAP R/3 Plug-In release 2004.1. Only a PI version is avail able.

If you are planning to upgrade your SAP R/3 system, and you are already using an SAP R/3 Plug-In, then you will also need the SAP R/3 Plug-In Supplement CD to make the SAP R/3 Plug-In compatible with the new SAP R/3 release. For an Upgrade to SAP R/3 Enterprise or higher, the SAP R/3 Plug-In is already included in delivery. Irrespective of the utilization, the PI must by no means be uninstalled.
