WDC DG HANNAHS NEWS BYTES

Letter From the President by Katie Novaria

The cherry blossoms are blooming, the warm sun is shining, and your April edition of Hannahs News Bytes has arrived! In March the WDC chapter had a wonderful Founders Day celebration with the collegians from the Beta Epsilon Chapter at American University. We were excited to welcome our Fraternity President, Beth Searcy, and over 130 Delta Gammas to celebrate a sisterhood that began over 135 years ago. Sisters enjoyed a memorable lunch, raised money for the foundation through our chapter nursery and giving tree, participated in the Fight for Sight through our TOMS Eyewear trunk show, and received both impressive and fun awards for their dedication to Delta Gamma. Our very own Lynn Neagley was presented the Delta Gamma Cable Award for her dedication and loyalty to the Fraternity. Congratulations Lynn! A big thank you to our Founders Day Chair, Maureen OConnor, and to all who volunteered and made this years Founders Day so special. I am excited to Announce our newest WDC Delta Gamma Alumnae Chapter Officers! A Special Note from Special Interest Groups by Ruthie Goodell

Hi everyone! I am excited to test out a few options for new SIG groups this Spring/Summer. While these are not definite, Id like to see what the groups interest in these areas is, and eventually add a few more to the amazing line up of groups DCDG currently offers! The 3 groups I have in mind are... 1) Networking SIG: *This SIG would be a place where women of the WDCDG can get together once a month to work on networking skills (i.e. resume building, discussions with others in the same career path, guidance on various career information, etc). 2) Crafting SIG: *In pure sorority fashion, we have been through enough puffy paint, fabric, and markers to really enjoy crafting with our sisters! In this group, the leader can prepare a specific crafting idea, provide materials at their house, and the women can pay a small fee to learn about the craft of the month. If the leader wants to get fancy, they could spin off of this and plan an outing or wherever their creativity takes them to bring women together to chat and craft monthly! 3) DG Fit Club *Once a month, the women of DG can participate in something active/health related as a group to form stronger bonds and promote active lifestyles. As many of the current members have paired up to run races or workout together, it'd be great to plan a few smaller races together or outings to get DGs out in DC in other ways! From kayaking on the river to the Color Run 5k in September to maybe even an afternoon hiking someone outside of the city, this group could be a real success! Please also take a moment to take my brief survey on SIGs which will benefit the startup of these groups! I am always happy to hear any suggestions/comments/concerns on the topic of SIGs, so please feel free to email me at any time: ruthgoodell@gmail.com Thank you, Ruthie

Foundation Focus by Lynn Neagley

APRIL Foundation news for WDC Delta Gamma Alumnae Chapter e-newsletter Happy Spring, to all! I hope you all had an opportunity to view the fantastic sunglasses at the Toms Trunk Show at Founders Day and places an order to support Toms And Delta Gammas Great Fight for Sight program! If you were unable to see the selection in person or need a refresher on the styles available, you can visit the Toms website and access the very user friendly site! Be sure to use our Chapter Code (DG WashingtonDCalumnae) so that our chapter is in the running for free Toms products and gift cards! These will be auctioned off at upcoming events IF our members purchase at least 10 pairs of sunglasses! Remember each purchase of a pair of sunglasses means TOMs reciprocates by providing medical treatments or eyeglasses to people in need all over the world. Great program! Many of you have been actively doing good by training for charity walks and runs and wed like to spread the word! If you are currently training and raising money for ANY good cause, could you send me information? I would like to compile a list of links where your DG sisters who read this can go to easily make a donation in support of your good work! Our own Delta Gamma Do Good Team page for the VisionWalk at Rockville, MD town center in September will soon be live and information on joining will be posted on Facebook and tweeted and featured in future e-newsletters. It is never too early to participate in a VisionWalk and the next one in our area is in Reston, Virginia on Saturday, May 4th. The Delta Gamma Do Good Team, organized by Abby Kuo, NOVA Alumnae Chapter President, welcomes you to join! I plan to attend and we will be lending them our wonderful banner so let me know if you are coming! SAVE THE DATE for Spring Fling-May 16, Wednesday in the Farragut North and West area. More information will be available soon and we are looking forward to another great turnout this year. Remember, this event is open to our fellow Greeks and our friends and families who would like to turn out to support our chapter as we continue to raise funds for worthy local organizations such as the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind, MD Puppy Raisers for the Guiding Eyes for the Blind and the Foundation Fighting Blindness and its VisionWalk in September. Service for Sight hours are due at the end of this month so send me your hours by Sunday, April 29th so I can report them to the Delta Gamma Foundation. Our chapter receives credit for your good work AND we want to be sure and thank you also! If you have ANY questions as to what counts as Service for Sight hours, please contact me anytime! You would be surprised how flexible the definition is for alumnae! In the bonds, Lynn vpfoundation@wdcdeltagamma.org
