April, 2009
From the editors desk Welcome! This is the very first issue of our "Monthly NAIVY newsletter", a free spiritual newsletter written by various practitioners of Vihangam Yoga residing in the United States of America. Through this newsletter and activities organized by our society, we make an effort to spread spiritual awareness among readers and believers. As individuals, we aspire to remain perpetually happy irrespective of good and bad events affecting our domestic, professional, social, cultural or spiritual lives. We are constantly advocated by others about staying happy, controlling anger, and to be loving and kind to our surroundings. It all sounds comforting, but the truth remains that it is easier said than done. One has myriad moods, emotions, and feelings developing everyday, which get accumulated within and serve to cause stress and disturbances. We all seek peace of mind, inner strength to deal with upheavals, turmoil and windfalls and the ability to maintain calm in all situations. However, given our hectic modern lifestyles, we seldom get time for ourselves and continue to live with circumstances, as there does not seem to be any quick and easy remedy. It is here when we present Vihangam Yoga. It is this technique that used to be practiced by seers and sages in vedic era for all the prosperity and spiritual growth. Sadafaldeoji Maharaj has revived the same technique in the present time. The simple meditation technique, with blessings from the spiritual teacher or Guru, helps relieve daily stress and worries. Not requiring much time or posing constraints, Vihangam Yoga may be practiced quickly anywhere at any moment. It has been a topic of scientific research and proven to have enabled practitioners achieve a high state of concentration and mental stability. At NAIVY, we propagate this unique knowledge and encourage seekers to look within in exploration of peace. With blessings of Sadguru we open doors to a whole new spiritual world and welcome you to join us on this journey.

VOLUME I, NUMBER 1

Workshop held on 22nd April 2009 at the premises of Shri Shiva Vishnu temple, Lanham, Maryland, USA. A total of 39 members participated in the workshop that was conducted by Dr Hemant Kumar. Yoga and its benefits are transforming millions of lives today. Most of us are interested in Yoga but adding yet another activity into our busy and often hectic schedule always seems to be a secondary thought. Appreciating time restrictions in our mundane life, a quick and short meditation technique called Vihangam Yoga was revived by His Holiness Sadguru Sadafaldeo Ji Maharaj in 1924 hundreds of years ago. Vihangam Yoga is an ancient meditation technique, which has been continuously practiced by sages and seers. The word Vihangam means a bird, and just as a bird leaves its base on the earth to fly high in the sky, so does Vihangam Yoga enable the human soul to cut off its moorings in the phenomenal world and realize its true and free nature. This yoga has been named as: Brahmavidya, Paravidya, Madhuvidya, Adhyatmavidya, Sahaj yoga the knowledge of realizing the supreme soul. The secret knowledge of this universe is gained through Vihangam Yoga. By practicing techniques of Vihangam Yoga one learns about the natural and spiritual world. Knowledge thus gained cannot be achieved by yoga exercises based on physical and mental plane. Practitioners of Vihangam Yoga get the same experience as mentioned in scriptures such as Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagvad Gita, Ramayana and Bible. The knowledge of Vihangam Yoga is special, and not easy to obtain. It requires conquering the mind as only then can one achieve this knowledge. Understanding principles and experiencing the power of Vihangam Yoga happens only with blessings of Sadguru. Without Sadguru, we cannot comprehend this science of spirituality. Sadguru is the source of all knowledge. He is the originator of Vihangam Yoga and Meditation. He is thy holy teacher who is praised in all four Vedas and it is He who unravels the mystery of universe to deserving souls.

This eternal spiritual master has always descended to this world to preach this technique to deserving souls since times immemorial. Twa dootam agney amritam yugey- yugey havyawaaham dadhirey paayumeedayam. Devaasah cha martasah cha jaagrivim vibhum vishwapatim namasaa nishedirey. -- Rig Veda Sadguru emphasizes that knowledge of Vihangam Yoga belongs to entire mankind. Everyone has a right to this knowledge. He says that whenever one selects the true and right path, obstacles do come along in many forms to distract one from following this sacred path. However, a true disciple or a yogi is one who does not deviate or perturbed from worldly problems and continues to practice the Vihangam Yoga technique (Updesh) within the cynosure of Sadguru. One also needs to understand the importance of regular practice through meditation in morning and evening. With constant improvement in practice, we start experiencing the spiritual knowledge of Vihangam Yoga. Initially, experiences begin with self-transformation from subtle changes like becoming more patient to exhibiting a positive attitude. Further as one explores realms of Vihangam Yoga, the divine power of Sadguru pulls towards itself pure and sincere souls the moment they come in its contact. The practitioner experiencing flow of consciousness through Susmana, gets pulled towards Sadguru i.e. he follows even with closed eyes wherever Sadguru or the center of attraction guides. This is a vivid proof of Sadguru's great glory. It is a testimony of true identity of the Sadguru that even with eyes closed during meditation the practitioner is drawn towards him. We need Sadguru to help us realize the reality around us. The most startling reality of a human life is his death. The Vihangam Yoga teaches the method to conquer death. None other than the eternal spiritual master himself teaches this spiritual knowledge, or by a deserving soul who has been proclaimed as Sadguru by this eternal teacher. A person who provides knowledge of Vedas, Upanishads and other ancient scriptures is termed as Vedic teacher. However all ancient scriptures (Vedas, Upanishads etc.) mention an eternal teacher who comes to Earth in all ages to spread the message of Supreme Lord, to tell about the science of spiritualism (Rigveda).

Atharwveda says that the spiritual teacher is near to everyone, listens to every word and yet no one knows Him. -----------nahi devo na martyo.. It is He who uttered the first spiritual words. Rishis, Sages, hermits and Yogis have sung prayers in His praise. These prayers have also been sung by Goswami Tulsidas in the great epic Ramayana. Having understood that there indeed is a spiritual teacher who can dispel the darkness and ignorance from within us, then the question is Do we really need this teacher in todays world? The answer lies in trying to understand the world where we live. The world around us perhaps appears to move at normal pace, yet from an analytical perspective one can feel the humanity today is crying for peace and harmony. There is hatred, ill feelings and communal violence. There have been incessant wars in recent past. Our own lives are in grip of tension, anxiety, and depression due to various man-made reasons. We need mental peace and happiness but it is merely a dream to many of us. We do not know the root cause of these problems and even if we are aware of them we are not able to do much. The philosophy of Vihangam Yoga advocates that the root cause of all these problems is the mind. One of the most vital organs of our body yet poorly understood of its wavering nature and behavior. The Vihangam Yoga meditation is a proven way to tame the wavering mind and only then one can achieve ever-lasting peace and happiness within. This technique can only be learnt by a Tatw-Vetta the Sadguru. Yes, in todays world, the need of this spiritual master is more than ever before. Today, this ancient knowledge of spiritualism and the technique of Vihangam Yoga can be learnt by Sadguru Swatantra Deo Ji Maharaj, hailing from India. We have several dedicated Vihangam Yoga centers here in USA working towards imparting this knowledge to the seekers and interested ones.

Sadguru is not an ordinary person. He is the one who is always connected with the supremely conscious zone and is all knowing. It is He who has the power to bless any soul and provide salvation. Thus, when one surrenders to the holy feet of Sadguru, He will serve as the guide and mentor on this spiritual path. Sadguru provides the knowledge of controlling the mind, the self-realization and the realization of God, which is the ultimate aim of Vihangam Yoga.

Vihangam Yoga is the ancient most scientific technique of realizing ones own self and beyond. This science went out of common access some hundreds of years ago. It was his Holiness Anant Shri Sadafaldeo Ji Maharaj who renovated its principle and scientific practice after undertaking strenuous penance continuously for seventeen years. He wrote 35 books dealing with various aspects of Vihangam Yoga and of these the Swarved stands supreme.

Vidyut se gati chapal hai, mann kar chaal apaar! Indrin sanchalan karei, karm varna vistaar!! Word Meaning: (Vidyut) electricity (chapal) faster Purport: Mind moves faster than electricity, it has innumerous subjects to engage the souls consciousness. It commands over sense organs and expands the webs of karma and impure knowledge. Mind is so shrewd that it has trapped souls consciousness in the evergrowing webs of karma and illusion. As every moment, mind weaves another periphery of web and shows new opportunity for soul to remain engaged with; in the process, soul is blind folded and keeps moving to reach the ever growing end of the web. It has forgotten its true form and the true need. Mann maya marti nahin, nahin vasana naash! Yah sharir mari mari gaya, kar maaya mann naash!! Word Meaning: (Mann) the means to obtain the knowledge of the subjects of prakriti.,(Maya) Prakriti, (vasana) the memories and attraction with the subjects that are experienced in the past,(Naash) vanish Purport: The root cause of the dissatisfaction and the void of happiness in the life is the relation between the soul and mind. As the mind by its nature is wavering, no feelings of joy continue to stay long in experience. The commander of mind- the soul has forgotten its command and is instead completely engaged with what mind is asking for. Busy pleasing the wavering need of mind, the soul has forgotten its own joy. Until the soul realizes this fact and withdraws the flow of consciousness out of the direction of mind, the true experience of peace and joy will remain a distant possibility. This stanza of Swarved says that the wavering needs of mind never die out. If we keep running towards the subjects weaved by the mind, we will remain trapped to a meaningless race for births. This race is endless and spreads across births. If we want to get out of this illusionary race, we need to learn the true technique of controlling the mind.
