Requirements A typical Chinese listed companys common equity shares are divided into the state shares, legal person shares, and tradable shares (owned by institutional and individual investors). Such a unique ownership structure may complicate the key decisions facing corporate financial managers. While empirical studies examining such issues exist, the lack of guidance with regard to practical applications of corporate finance theory and models developed in the more advanced economies and financial markets has been pointed out by many professionals. Your task is to carry out a case study which aims to analyse such issues and provide advice to the CFO of your chosen company. Any company that is currently included in the Shanghai-Shenzhen 300 index and exhibits the above ownership structure may be chosen. The title of your report must show the name of your chosen company. Company level and market level information in English is available through our library electronic resources link to the CSMAR (Chinese Stock Market and Accounting Research) database. You are strongly advised to use this database to collect financial reports data and relevant market information. If you happen to discuss all three issues, only the first will be marked! Instructions Your work should naturally be designed to impress the assessor but remember that it is your level of competence and understanding of the topic that will be judged. Keep in mind that you are required to develop your own analysis based on the available data and information. Simple references to journal articles or translations from Chinese reports to English will not be very helpful. The topics are flexible and you may, if you choose, work in the general area indicated but the problem as given is an indication of the level of knowledge that is expected to be demonstrated. Some

analysis or use of market data or the explanation, in your own words, and use of the theory underlying your topic is required. A course work report consisting only of discussion is not acceptable. Technical material (theory, data analysis, demonstrations all or some of these) is required.
