COLUMBA CATHOLIC CHURCH April 8, 2012 Easter Sunday - The Resurrection of the Lord

SAN DIEGO

Pastors Corner ~
THE FRUITS OF THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the crowning truth of our Christian faith. Though we cannot fully explain in limited human language what this mystery is, we simply say that Resurrection is Christs victory over sin and death. But there is more to its effects than to its definition. It is more than just about Easter bunnies and eggs, Easter lilies and decors, parties and merry making. But because of the Resurrection 1. Heavens gate was opened to the souls of the holy people of old who have been waiting for salvation. Christ descended into hell in order to deliver those righteous souls who were deserving of Gods reward of eternal life; 2. Sins were forgiven and condemnation was cancelled. Humanity and all creation is renewed and reconciled with the Creator; 3. Its effects to all creation is tremendous joy, beauty, newness, freshness of life, peace; 4. The certainty of what we hope for is assured, for Christs blood has purchased our salvation; 5. Divine mercy, Gods unconditional love to sinners is proclaimed. If God has given us his Son, what else can He not give us? 6. Eternal life is freely offered to all who believe. God is glorified, man is saved. ALLELUIA, HE IS RISEN!

EASTER SUNDAY - THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD

APRIL 8, 2012

Feast of Divine Mercy

Sunday, April 15th
As Jesus requested, this great feast is universally observed throughout the Church on the Sunday after Easter. Blessed John Paul established the Feast of Divine Mercy during the canonization in Rome of St. Faustina Kowalska in the Jubilee Year of 2000. Jesus said to St. Faustina, Whoever approaches the fountain of life on this day will be granted the complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. To encourage its celebration with special devotion, the observance has been enriched by a plenary indulgence which is granted to the faithful under the usual conditions: (1) sacramental confession, (2) Eucharistic communion, (3) prayer for the intention of the Holy Father. Everyone is encouraged to take advantage of this incredible promise and the additional plenary indulgence on this Great Feast of Mercy. Our Divine Mercy Sunday Devotion will be on Sunday, April 15th, 2:003:30 pm in the church. A pot-luck celebration will follow in the hall. Please join us.
