BUEHRLE
2012: DEBUT
Mark Buehrle is making his National League debut tomorrow night, starting the
first game of a three-game set against Cincinnati. Since 2001, Buehrle leads the
Majors in innings pitched (2,425.1), starts (362), quality starts (230), pickoffs (80)
and opponents GIDP (274) and ranks among active leaders in wins (4th, 157),

Tomorrow nights start will mark his third career start and appearance against
the Reds. He owns a 2-0 record and 0.60 ERA (15.0 IP/2 ER) in those starts. He last
faced the Redlegs on June 21, 2009 at Great American Ball Park, earning the
win after tossing 7.0 innings of scoreless ball. He gave up just five hits, walked
one and struck out three. His only other appearance was on June 13, 2001 at
US Cellular Field. He came away with a win in that contest as well, surrendering
two runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out four in 8.0 frames.
The St. Charles, Missouri, native is a four-time American League All-Star (2002,
05-06, 09) and three-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner (2009-11). He
is the only pitcher in history to have thrown multiple no-hitters and earn more
than one Gold Glove. He (2009) and Bob Gibson (1971) are the only two pitchers to throw a no-hitter in the same season they won a Gold Glove. Among
active career leaders, he is tied with Brad Penny for fourth in wins, ranks fourth
in strikeouts (667) and quality starts (77), and sixth in innings pitched (725.1).
