There exists a diatonic size chart, where there are included seconds, thirds, fourths, fifths, sixths, and sevenths Diatonic size is an absolute o o o o No flexibility in names or size Must use the notated names to determine size You can ignore the accidentals to determine the size Accidentals are only used when you need to determine the quality

Major 2nd is made up of two half notes, counting the first note you will play Major 3rd is made up of four half steps Perfect 4th is made up of five half steps Perfect 5th is made up of seven half steps A major sixth is made up of nine half steps Major 7th is made up of eleven half steps Perfect eighth is made up of twelve half steps Minor, Augmented and diminished intervals exist o Diminished interval has one less half step than a perfect interval o C Gb instead of C G B F instead of B F#

Augmented interval has one more half step than a perfect interval C F# instead of CF FB instead of F Bb

Major intervals can be augmented by adding a half step

CA is a major sixth, but can be made an augmented sixth through C A#

Subtracting a half step from a major interval does not make it diminished; instead, it becomes a minor
