The reference standard for ISO Metric Method is BS 4190 & BS 3692 The various strength grade is as following Bolts BS 4190 4.6 4.8 6.9 BS 3692 4.6 4.8 5.6 5.8 6.6 6.8 8.8 10.9 12.9 14.9 As per the above the higher number indicates the stronger in strength. How would you recognise a bolt to BS 1768? If the bolt was grade T what nut would you use and how would you identify the bolt and nut?

(a)1.The BS 1768 bolts has various grades such as A B P S T V X. To recognize such bolts verification to be done for the grade mark which shall be indented or embossed on the hexagon head. 2. As they are unified bolts and to identify the same it will have circular recess on upper surface of the head or line of contiguous circles on the one or more flat surfaces. (b)Grade3 nut shall be used. Identification Bolt Grade T shall be indented or embossed on the hexagon head and it will have circular recess on upper surface of the head or line of contiguous circles on the one or more flat surfaces The nut grade 3 shall be indented or embossed on the hexagon head and will have circular groove or line of contiguous circles or recess. (a)3 Radial line 120 degree apart on top of the hexagon head with ISOM or M Id mark for the ISO metric threads (b)The nut will have 3 circumferential arcs 120 degree apart parellel to the chamfer with M mark for the ISO Metric threads (c)Taper washers shall be used (d)Taper washers are in 3 different types. They are 3 degree, 5 degree and 8 Degree. If 3 degree taper washer used it will have a projection. If 5 degree taper washer used it will have chamfer on one corner.
