OH, NOITE REALMENTE GLORIOSA, QUE RECONCILIA O HOMEM COM DEUS. Muitas coisas foram preditas pelos Profetas acerca do mistrio da Pscoa, que Cristo, ao qual seja dada glria pelos sculos dos sculos. Amem. Ele desceu do cu terra para curar a enfermidade do homem; revestiu-Se da nossa natureza no seio da Virgem e fez-Se homem; tomou sobre Si os sofrimentos do homem enfermo num corpo sujeito ao sofrimento e destruiu as fraquezas da carne; e com Seu esprito que no podia morrer, matou a morte homicida. Foi conduzido morte como um cordeiro; libertou-nos da seduo do mundo, como outrora tirou os israelitas do Egito; salvou-nos da escravido do demnio, como outrora arrancou Israel das mos do Fara; imprimiu em nossas almas o sinal de Seu Esprito e assinalou nossos corpos com Seu Sangue. Foi Ele que venceu a morte e confundiu o demnio, como outrora Moiss ao Fara. Foi Ele que destruiu a iniquidade e condenou esterelidade a injustia, como Moiss ao Egito. Foi Ele que nos fez passar da escravido liberdade, das trevas luz, da morte para vida, da tirania ao reino perptuo, e fez de ns um sacerdcio novo, um povo eleito para sempre. Ele a Pscoa da nossa salvao. (Melito de Sardes, sculo II) Queridos Irmos em Cristo Ressuscitado, se compreendessemos o verdadeiro significado desta nossa alegria pascal, o que de verdade Cristo conquistou para ns ou mesmo o que significa a Pscoa em nossas vidas, nossa alegria seria plena. No podemos viver a Pscoa como se fosse apenas mais uma Pscoa em nossa vida, precisamos vivla de maneira diferente, nova, como se fosse a primeira, como se fosse a ltima ou como se fosse a nica Pscoa de nossa vida. Este mistrio maravilhoso, preparado pela Quaresma e vivenciado durante a Semana Santa, o mistrio da vida nova em Cristo. Alguma vez voc pensou em sua vida, em alguns acontecimentos que te trouxeram tristezas ou atitudes que voc desejaria no ter realizado e tentasse comear tudo de novo? Pois bem, a Pscoa essa oportunidade que voc tanto pensou e um dia precisou. Nossa vida velha, de pecado e de escravido, foi anulada na cruz e no sangue de Cristo. Na Pscoa nos dado uma vida completamente nova, como se o Criador virasse a pgina da nossa vida no livro da histria humana. Uma nova pgina est aberta, e o que voc pretende fazer? Pscoa luz, vida nova, ressurreio, esperana de um novo amanhecer o mistrio da vida na f que faz com que todos os anos Deus pelo seu Filho Jesus, Morto-Sepultado-Ressuscitado, atravs do Esprito Santo transmita humanidade a vida eterna. Desejamos a todos os nossos irmos e irms paroquianos Uma Feliz e Santa Pscoa e que a alegria da boa nova do Cristo Ressuscitado traga ao corao de todos: f, esperana e caridade. OH GLORIOUS NIGHT THAT RECONCILES MAN WITH GOD Many things were predicted by the Prophets regarding the Easter mystery, which is Christ, to whom we give glory for the centuries upon centuries. Amen. He descended from heaven to earth to cure mans illness; He transformed himself into human by the womb of the Virgin and became man; He took upon Himself mans suffering from disease in a body subject to suffering and destroying the weakness of our flesh; and with His spirit which could not be killed, He conquered the murderous death. He was driven to death like a lamb; He freed us from our worlds seductions, the way He took the Israelites out of Egypt; He saved us from being enslaved by evil, the way He plucked Israel from Pharaohs grasp; He stamped onto our spirits the sign of His Spirit and marked our bodies with His blood. It was He that defeated death and confused the devil, as did Moses to the Pharaoh. It was He who destroyed iniquity and made injustice sterile, as Moses did in Egypt. It was He that took us from slavery to freedom, from the darkness into the light, from death into life, from tyranny to the perpetual kingdom, and from us He made a new priesthood, a chosen people forever. He is the Easter of our salvation (Melite Sardes, 2nd century) Dear Brothers in the Risen Christ, if we understood the meaning of our Pascal joy, that which Christ conquered for us or even what Easter means to our existence, then would our joy be true and full. We cannot go through Easter as though it is just another Easter in our life. We need to live it differently, new, as if it was the first, as if it was the last or as though it is the only Easter in our life. This wonderful mystery, prepared by Lent and experienced during Holy Week is the mystery of the new life in Christ. Have you ever thought about your life, the events that brought you sorrow or attitudes you wish you never realized and try to begin everything anew? Well then, Easter is that opportunity that you thought of and one day needed. Our old life of sin and slavery was annulled on the cross and blood of Christ. At Easter, a completely new life is given to us, as though the Creator turned a page in our human life story. A new page is open, and what do you intend to do? Easter is light, new life, resurrection and the hope of a new dawn is the mystery of life in the faith. Every year God through his son Jesus, Dead-Buried-Resurrected, and by the Holy Spirit conveys to humanity an eternal life. We wish all our brother and sister parishioners A Happy and Holy Easter and that the happiness of the good news of the Risen Christ brings to the hearts of all: faith, hope and charity. O VALOR DO SANGUE DE CRISTO

stamos vivendo a Semana Santa, tempo de

alegria e converso, em que ao lanar o olhar para Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo e contemplar sua Paixo, Morte e Ressurreio nos convencemos que o amor de Deus por ns imenso: Deus amou tanto o mundo que nos deu seu Filho nico nos diz So Joo no seu Evangelho. Na Semana Santa fica sempre evidente a Paixo e Morte de Jesus por ns, por nossos pecados, pelos pecados da humanidade; enfim, nosso olhar se volta para o seu sofrimento, para seu sangue derramado por ns. Qual o valor deste sangue? Que significado tem para ns o sangue do Filho de Deus derramados para nos lavar de nossas culpas? So Joo Crisstomo, que foi um grande bispo da Igreja oriental e tambm considerado um dos Santos Padres da Igreja e Doutor da Igreja, escreve um pequeno artigo muito rico sobre o valor do sangue de Cristo, e assim nos diz: Queres conhecer o valor do Sangue de Cristo? Voltemos s figuras que o profetizaram e recordemos a narrativa do Antigo Testamento: Imolai, diz Moiss, um cordeiro de um ano e assinalai as portas com o seu sangue. Que dizes, Moiss? O sangue de um cordeiro tem poder para libertar o homem racional? Certamente, responde ele, no porque sangue, mas porque prefigura o Sangue do Senhor. Se hoje o inimigo, em vez do sangue simblico aspergido nos umbrais, vir resplandecer nos lbios dos fiis, portas dos templos de Cristo, o sangue da nova realidade, fugir ainda mais longe. Queres compreender ainda mais profundamente o valor deste sangue? Repara donde brotou e qual a sua fonte. Comeou a brotar da cruz, e a sua fonte foi o Lado do Senhor. Estando j morto Jesus, diz o Evangelho, e ainda cravado na cruz, aproximou-se um soldado, trespassou-Lhe o Lado com a lana e logo saiu gua e sangue: gua como smbolo do Batismo, sangue como smbolo da Eucaristia.

O soldado trespassou o Lado, abriu uma brecha na parede do templo santo e eu achei um grande tesouro e alegro-me por ter encontrado riquezas admirveis. Assim aconteceu com aquele cordeiro. Os judeus mataram um cordeiro e eu recebi o fruto do sacrifcio. Do lado saiu sangue e gua. No quero, estimado leitor, que passes inadvertidamente por to grande mistrio. Falta-me ainda explicar-te outro significado mstico. Disse que essa gua e este sangue simbolizavam o Batismo e a Eucaristia. Foi destes sacramentos que nasceu a Igreja, pelo banho de regenerao e pela renovao do Esprito Santo, isto , pelo sacramento do Batismo e da Eucaristia que brotaram do Lado de Cristo. Foi do Lado de Cristo, por conseguinte, que se formou a Igreja, como foi do lado de Ado que Eva foi formada. Por esta razo, a Escritura, falando do primeiro homem, usa a expresso carne da minha carne, osso dos meus ossos, que So Paulo refere, aludindo ao Lado de Cristo. Pois assim como Deus, do lado de Ado formou a mulher, assim Cristo, do seu Lado, nos deu a gua e o sangue para formar a Igreja. E assim como Deus abriu o lado de Ado enquanto ele dormia, assim Cristo nos deu a gua e o sangue durante o sono da sua morte. Vede como Cristo Se uniu sua Esposa, vede com que alimento nos sacia. O mesmo alimento nos faz nascer e nos alimenta. Assim como a mulher se sente impulsionada pelo amor natural a alimentar com o prprio leite e o prprio sangue o filho que deu luz, assim Cristo alimenta sempre com seu Sangue aqueles a quem deu o novo nascimento. Como rico, irmos e irms, o ensinamento da nossa Me Igreja, pela boca dos Santos Padres. Aproveitemos esses ensinamento para tomar posse do Deus nos oferece e assim nos enriquecer neste tempo favorvel.

THE VALUE OF CHRISTS BLOOD

e are living the Holy Week, a time of joy and

conversion, when looking to Our Lord Jesus Christ and contemplating His Passion, Death and Resurrection we are convinced that God's love for us is immense, "God so loved the world that He gave us His only Son "Saint John tells us in his Gospel. During Holy Week, the Passion and Death of Jesus for us, for our sins, the sins of mankind is always evident; and so our gaze turns to His suffering, His blood shed for us. What is the value of this blood? What does it mean for us the blood of the Son of God poured out to wash us from our sins? St. John Chrysostom, who was a great bishop of the Eastern Church and also considered one of the Holy Fathers of the Church and Doctor of the Church, wrote a short but rich article about the value of the blood of Christ, and thus tells us: "Want to know the value of the Blood of Christ? Returning to the images that prophesied him and remembering the narrative of the Old Testament: Slaughter, says Moses, a one year old lamb and sprinkle the doors with his blood. What do you say Moses? The blood of a lamb has the power to liberate the rational man? Certainly, he says, not because it is blood, but because it prefigures the blood of the Lord. If today the enemy, instead of the symbolic blood sprinkled on the doorposts, sees the radiance on the lips of believers, doors of Christs temples, the blood of the new reality, will flee even further. Do you want to understand more deeply the meaning of this blood? Take a look at where it sprouted and its source. It sprouted from the cross, and the source being the Lord's Side. The Gospel says that when Jesus was already dead and still nailed to the cross, a soldier came by and pierced his side with a lance and immediately there came out blood and water: water as a symbol of the Baptism and blood as a symbol of the Eucharist.

The soldier pierced the Lords Side, opened a gap in the wall of the Holy Temple, and I found a great treasure and I am delighted to have found such admirable wealth. And so it happened with that lamb. The Jews killed the lamb and I received the fruit of the sacrifice. From the side, came out the blood and the water. I do not want, dear reader, that you inadvertently miss such a great mystery. I still need to explain to you another mystical meaning. I said that this water and this blood symbolized Baptism and the Eucharist. It was from these two sacraments that the Church was born, the bath of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit, that is, by the sacrament of Baptism and the Eucharist, which both sprang from Christs Side . It was from Christs Side, therefore, that the Church was formed, as it was from Adams side that Eve was formed. For this reason, when the Scriptures refer to the first man, the term flesh of my flesh, bone of my bones, which St. Paul mentions, is alluding to Christs Side. Just like God formed a woman from Adams side, so did Christ, from His Side, give us water and blood to form the Church. And as God opened Adams side while he slept, so Christ gave us water and blood during the sleep of His death. See how Christ has united himself to the Church, see what food gratifies us. The same food that gives us life and nourishment. Just as a woman feels impelled by natural love to feed the son to whom she gave birth with her own milk and her own blood, so Christ always feeds, with his blood, those to whom he gave the new birth. Brothers and sisters, how rich is the teaching of our Mother Church, as per our Holy Fathers. Let us take advantage of these teachings by taking what God is offering us and thus enriching us in this special time.

O que a Pscoa?

Pscoa , sem dvida, a maior e mais impor-

tante Festa do mundo cristo. A palavra Pscoa tem sua origem em pessach, palavra hebraica que significa passagem. Segundo o xodo (13:4), a Pscoa judaica celebrava-se com a morte de um cordeiro, no dia 14 de abril, primeiro ms do calendrio hebraico. No nosso calendrio, abibe corresponde a maro ou abril. No incio, as comemoraes da Pscoa eram para celebrar as colheitas, fruto de mais um ano de trabalho rduo. Mais tarde, e nessa mesma poca do ano, quando os judeus conseguiram sair da escravido do Egipto e atravessaram o Mar Vermelho rumo terra prometida, a comemorao da Pscoa passou a ser a de Passagem, do xodo, da Libertao da terra do Egipto. A Pscoa tem, portanto, para os judeus um significado muito especial, pois marca o xodo do povo hebreu do Egipto, por volta de 1250 a.C., onde tinha sido escravizado e humilhado pelos faras durante quatro sculos. A Pscoa os libertou da escravido, opresso e misria de seus pecados perante Deus, e lhes ofereceu uma nova vida. Ainda hoje, pela Pscoa, os judeus fazem e comem o matz (po sem fermento) para comemorar a fuga apressada do Egipto. Entre os primeiros cristos, a Pscoa passou a celebrar a ressurreio de Jesus Cristo (vitria sobre a morte) depois da sua morte por crucificao, que teria ocorrido nesta altura do ano, em 30 ou 33 d.C. A Pscoa crist foi estabelecida no Conclio de Nicia, no ano de 325 da nossa era. Ao adoptar a Pscoa como uma das suas festas, a Igreja Catlica inspirou-se essencialmente em motivos judaicos tais como, a passagem pelo Mar Vermelho (as turbulncias da vida), a viagem pelo deserto rumo terra prometida (a peregrinao ao Cu), o man (que exemplifica a Eucaristia), a cerimnia da Pscoa (a Santa Ceia), e muitos outros ritos.

Assim, o verdadeiro significado da festa da Pscoa, antes e depois de Jesus Cristo, LIBERTAO. No Antigo Testamento, a Pscoa marca o fim da opresso escravizadora de Fara sobre o povo hebreu, durante 400 anos de cativeiro. No Novo Testamento, Cristo a nossa Pscoa. A nossa libertao espiritual plena foi conquistada por Ele que, como cordeiro, foi morto e derramou Seu sangue pela humanidade. S. Paulo escreveu que Ele a nossa Pscoa (1Co 5.7), e Ele mesmo prometeu a libertao a todos quantos crerem nEle (Jo 8.32,36 e Mt 11.28). Se Cristo a nossa Pscoa, devemos comemor-la atravs do sacramento institudo por Ele, a Eucaristia. Na ltima Ceia, Ele disse: ... Isto o meu corpo que por vs dado; fazei isto em memria de mim. Semelhantemente, tomou o clice, depois da ceia, dizendo: Este clice o novo testamento no meu sangue, que derramado por vs. (Lc 22: 1520). Neste episdio ocorrido pouco antes da Sua paixo e morte, Jesus introduz a Ceia como substituta da festa pascal do Antigo Testamento. Os inmeros afazeres do quotidiano por vezes nos impedem de reflectir no verdadeiro significado da Pscoa. Cada cristo deveria observar anualmente a Festa da Pscoa, lembrando no s a libertao da escravido do povo hebreu, mas sobretudo a libertao da escravido do pecado, atravs do sacrifcio de Cristo, o Cordeiro que tira o pecado do mundo.

What is Easter?

aster is undoubtedly the largest and most im-

portant feast of the Christian world. The word Easter has its origin in the Hebrew word Pesach, which means passage. According to Exodus (13: 4), Passover was celebrated with the death of a lamb on the month of Nisan, the first month of the Jewish calendar. In our calendar, Nisan corresponds to March or April. Initially, the Feast of Easter was to celebrate the harvest, product of another year of hard work. Later, and at the same time of year, when the Jews managed to escape from the bondage of Egypt and crossed the Red Sea into the "promised land", the celebration of Easter was the exodus, the release of the land of Egypt. Easter, therefore, has a special significance to the Jews, as it marks the exodus of the Jewish people from Egypt, around 1250 BC, where they had been enslaved and humiliated by the Pharaohs during four centuries. Easter delivered them from slavery, oppression and misery of their sins before God, and offered them a new life. Even today, the Jews prepare and eat matzah (an unleavened bread) to commemorate the hasty flight from Egypt. Among the early Christians, Easter was a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ (victory over death) after his death by crucifixion, which would also have occurred at this time of year, in 30 or 33 AC. The Christian Easter was established at the Council of Nicaea, in 325 AC. By adopting the Passover as one of its feasts, the Catholic Church was inspired mainly by Jewish rituals such as the passage through the Red Sea (the turbulence of daily life), the journey through the wilderness towards the promised land (the pilgrimage to heaven), the manna (that exemplifies the Eucharist), the ceremony of Passover (Lord's Supper), and many other rituals.

Thus, the true meaning of the Feast of Easter, both before and after Jesus Christ, is Liberation. In the Old Testament, Easter marks the end of oppression and slavery of the Jewish people by Pharaoh, for 400 years of captivity. In the New Testament, Christ is our Passover. Our full spiritual liberation was given by Him, who like the lamb, was killed and shed His blood for mankind. St. Paul wrote that He is our Easter (1Cor 5.7), and He, Himself, promised to release all those who believe in him (Jo 8.32.36 and Mt 11.28). If Christ is our Passover, we must commemorate it through the sacrament instituted by Him, the Eucharist. At the last supper, He said: "... This is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me. " Similarly, He took the Cup after supper, saying, "this Cup is the New Testament in my blood, which is shed for you." (Luke 22: 15-20). In this episode occurring shortly before His passion and death, Jesus presents the Supper as a replacement of the paschal feast of the Old Testament. The myriad of daily life chores sometimes prevents us from reflecting on the true meaning of Easter. Every Christian should observe annually the Feast of Easter, remembering not only the deliverance of the Jewish people from bondage, but especially the liberation of sin, through the sacrifice of Christ, the lamb who takes away the sins of the world.

SANTA DO MS - Beata Kateri

m Dezembro de 2011 o papa Bento XVI assinou o

decreto de canonizao da primeira nativa norteamericana, Catarina ou Kateri Tekakwitha, uma indgena pele-vermelha que viveu no sculo XVII, tambm conhecida por Lrio dos Moicanos. Nascida em Osserneon, perto da atual Nova Iorque, em 1656, Catarina era filha de um iroqus pago e de uma algonquina crist. Aos quatro anos de idade, o seu rosto ficou desfigurado pela varola, a doena que causou a morte dos pais e do irmo e a deixou com um grave enfraquecimento da viso. Foi confiada aos cuidados de um tio que lhe deu o nome de Tekakwitha, que significa "aquela que pe as coisas em ordem". Batizada j adulta, aos 20 anos, no domingo de Pscoa de 1676, depois de um encontro com um grupo de missionrios franceses, recebeu o nome de Kateri, verso do nome Catarina. A converso dela provocou a ira do tio, o que a obrigou a fugir para a regio da actual cidade de Montreal, sob a proteo da Misso de So Francisco Xavier. Antes ainda do batismo, Kateri havia consagrado o seu corpo a Deus, fazendo um voto de castidade que, pouco antes de sua morte, tornou-se um voto de virgindade. Durante a sua curta vida, a beata submeteu-se a penitncias, passando longas horas em orao, inclusive ao ar livre nos dias mais gelados do longo inverno canadiano. A sua converso ao cristianismo no foi compartilhada pela sua tribo de orgem. Por este motivo, Kateri sofreu discriminao e perseguies de todos os tipos. No dia de sua morte, em 17 de abril de 1680, desapareceram milagrosamente os sinais da varola e o seu rosto foi descrito como belssimo. A suas ltimas palavras, pouco antes de morrer, foram: "Jesus, eu te amo". Muitos doentes ficaram inexplicavelmente curados depois de assistir ao seu funeral. Kateri, ou Catarina Tekakwitha, foi beatificada pelo papa Joo Paulo II no dia 22 de junho de 1980. A sua festa celebrada no dia 17 de Abril.

SAINT OF THE MONTH - Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha

lessed Kateri Tekakwitha, also known as Catherine

Tekakwitha and Lily of the Mohawks was a Native American woman from New France who converted to christianity. Because of this she was shunned and exiled by her pagan tribe. She died at the age of 24 after professing her vows of virginity. Known for her chastity and corporal mortification of the flesh, she is the first Native American woman to be venerated in the Roman Catholic Church. Tekakwitha was beatified by Blessed Pope John Paul II in 1980. On February 18, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI officially announced at Saint Peter's Basilica that Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha will be canonized on October 21, 2012 She was born around the year 1656 in a Mohawk village , in what is today northern New York. She was the daughter of a Mohawk chief and a Roman Catholic Algonquin woman who was baptized and educated by French missionaries. A smallpox epidemic, which lasted from 1661 to 1663 killed her brother and both her parents. It also left her with facial scars and poor vision. She was then adopted by her uncle, who was a chief of the Turtle Clan. According to Jesuits record of Kateri she was a shy and modest girl who avoided social gatherings . She was very skilled with traditional womens work, which included making clothing, belts, mats, baskets, boxes, and preparing food. At the age of 20, she was baptized on April 18, 1676, Easter Sunday. She exercised physical mortification of the flesh as a route to sanctity. She occasionally put thorns upon her sleeping mat and lay on them, while praying for the conversion and forgiveness of her kinsmen. After Catherine was baptized, she only remained in the village for another six months because her life became more difficult as she was continually harassed. The priest suggested that she leave the village and go to the mission where she lived for the last two years of her life. There, she learned even more about her faith. There were pressures by some people for Catherine to get married but she chose to be married only to Christ. She died on April 17, 1680 in the arms of her friend Marie-Therse. Her final words were: Jesus, I love you. Immediately after her death the smallpox scars vanished from her body. Several people reported healings due to her intercession. In 1684 a chapel was built where she rests and pilgrimages began in order to honour her. She is the patron saint of Montreal and of the aboriginals of North America.
