12. STEEL PONTOON 12.

1 ANCHORING SYSTEM The pontoon shall be held in position by 24m long spiral welded steel piles, 600mm outer dia., and 16mm wall thickness confined to vertical tidal movements only The fenders attached to the pontoons shall be wooden or low friction rubber fender. The fenders shall be able to withstand hard knocks and all environmental conditions. The fenders are secured to the sides of the pontoon deck with stainless steel nuts and bolts at 1000mm centers.

MOORING Mooring bollards and cleats shall be of cast iron. The BOLLARDS AND bollards and cleats are to be secured to the pontoon deck CLEATS with stainless steel through bolts. FINGER ATTACHMENTS Finger attachments are to be installed and attached to the pontoons for the mooring of boats. These finger attachments shall be of grade A timber and of the glue laminated structural beam type, or aluminium. (ii)to CP3 Chapter Materials (i)Structural steel to conform to BS 4360 "Weldable Structural Steels". (ii) Reinforced concrete to conform to BS 8110 1985 "Structural use of Concrete". Loadings The design vertical imposed pontoon shall be 5.0 KN/M2. Wind loading shall conform V:Part 2. Lateral loadings will be the maximum berthing energy for the biggest yachts of length 1Q m. loadings for the (m) Designs (i)Structural steel design is to conform to BS 449 "The Use of Structural Steel in Building". (ii)Reinforced concrete design is to conform to as 8110 "Structural Use of Concrete".

OPERATING TIDAL CONDITIONS

12.7

BOATS DATA

The tidal conditions prevailing at the site have been recorded as follows: Maximum High Water Level + 3.40m CD Min Sea Level + 1.87m CD Minimum Low Water Level 0.00CD The pontoon is to be operational under both extreme tidal conditions. However, the Contractor is to investigate and confirm the levels given above.

PONTOON CHARACTERISTIC

The pontoon system and arrangement shall be designed to acceptable sizes ranging from 30m to 30m+ 0.50m in length. The pontoon is to be designed with the capability of withstanding a maximum imposed load of10 kN/M2 and a minimum freeboard of 0.5m. The floating pontoons shall be steady and shall have a constant freeboard, independent of all water level variations. The floating pontoons shall be anchored so that they can be removed if and when necessary. The anchoring system shall be engineered in such a manner that the pontoons are allowed to move freely vertically but with limited or very little movements laterally. The pontoon unit-to-unit connection shall have at least a 60tonne breaking load capacity. The connection points shall have some degree of relative movements so as to accommodate all six degrees of freedom in choppy waters. All pontoons shall require minimum maintenance and shall have a long-life usage. These pontoons shall be made for all climates and should be able to withstand the hottest of climates. The pontoons should be stable and be able to perform normal wave-height reduction when installed in a line. The pontoons can be connected laterally that would suit the present location and as shown in the drawing.
