Workshops 1:15 - 3:15 pm Career Management Essentials:Job Search Methods, Tips for your Resumes, CVs, Cover Letters and Interviewing Exercises Led by Profs. Patrick Gordon and Dan Eustace. Patrick Gordon and Dan Eustace have served members of several societies, local sections and universities in sharing behaviors, emerging ideas and best practices for managing your careers. They find most campuses, while well intentioned, are not staffed with career placement professionals who interview, work with and supervise technical "knowledge workers," like chemists and engineers. They deliver fun, informative and practical sessions that highlight today's successful job search tactics and methods, tips for your public relations documents (resumes, CVs, cover letters, etc.), and interviewing exercises that aim to improve your performance.

Both Patrick and Dan serve as ACS career consultants and workshop presenters.

Stuart G. Levy is currently Principal Consultant at SGL Chemistry Consulting, LLC, a practice providing technical and strategic leadership and Dr. Stuart G. Levy guidance to pharmaceutical companies that need drug development expertise. Dr. Levy has had a SGL Chemsitry 17-year career in the pharmaceutical industry, Consulting, LLC including bench and leadership positions at entrepreneurial start ups, established biotech companies and contract R&D and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs). He obtained a BS in biochemistry and a PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and was a postdoctoral fellow in bioorganic/medicinal chemistry in the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego. Professor Whitty joined Boston University in 2008. He received his undergraduate degree (B.Sc., Hon.) in Chemistry at Kings College, University of London in 1985, and his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Illinois Prof. Adrian at Chicago in 1991 working with Professor Paul Whitty Young. Following postdoctoral research with Professor William P. Jencks at Brandeis University Boston University in the field of Enzymology, Adrian joined Biogen Inc. (now Biogen Idec) in Cambridge, MA as staff scientist, where he rose to the position of Director in the Drug Discovery Department and Head of Physical Biochemistry. In these roles he led a large group of research

scientists employing structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics and computational approaches to investigate the mechanisms of action of potential drug targets and drug candidates, including both biopharmaceutical (i.e. protein) and small molecule (i.e. synthetic organic) drug discovery projects. Professor Whitty led or co-led project teams aimed at discovering drugs against specific drug targets.

Dr. Doris Lewis is a professor of chemistry at Suffolk University. She is an ACS councilor for the Northeastern Section and is chair of the Suffolk University Northeastern Section Government Affairs Committee. She has recently completed a full term of service on the ACS Committee on Chemistry and Public Affairs and is currently associate member of the ACS Committee on Public Relations and Communications. She has been a regular participant in the ACS Legislative Summit on Capitol Hill and is a member of the ACS Legislative Action Network. Prof. Doris Lewis Mick Hurrey received his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill in Analytical Chemistry and was hired by Vertex in 2004. He currently is a Senior Scientist applying physical chemistry to the understanding of API Dr. Mick Hurrey molecules in the solid state and examining structure property relationships helping to design Vertex crystallization form control strategies and solid Pharmaceuticals dosage form development. With Vertex, Mick has served a wide variety of roles, from developing HPLC methods, supporting API and Drug Product manufacturing, leading cross functional teams, performing GMP investigations, determining stability and storage conditions to justify expiry dates, as well as designing lab space and helping organize outreach events for the public. Additionally, Mick has been the Chair of the Younger Chemists Committee and the Division of Business Development and Management of the ACS. He has helped create the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board as well as the Chemistry Entrepreneurship Council and has served on several taksforces all in an effort to increase the appreciation of chemistry and its role as the central science.

He has experience both in academia and industrial (Polaroid and Arqule) research and development. Among other things, he developed and patented imaging product components and has published papers with undergraduate students.

Prof. Dan Eustace University of Connecticut

Dan retired from Polaroid and ExxonMobil and serves the Chemistry Department of UCONN as an adjunct. He has held staff and management positions in battery development, complex oilfield chemical development, terrestrial solar cells, high tech film manufacture and environmental protection, industrial hygiene and chemical safety.
