Autonomous Intelligent Agents

: ACTIVATING PROCESS FOR GENERATING ARCHITECTURAL SPACE

In order to explain how Agent Based Modelling work in the process of creating architecture space design, a residence with different activity space, would be designed. For a case study I have considered an existing flat in East London, where the space is supposed to be redesigned for the accommodation of a single person.

H O W THE SYSTEM WORKS Heat Node: A number of heat nodes moving inside the interior space. They calculate heat from the environment and represent the intensity of heat of their position. Activity Agents: Activity 1 - This is where the Maximum activity is taking place at home. Activity 2-This is where Medium activity takes place. Activity 3-Where Light Weight activity takes place. Activity 4-Here less activity takes place.

The main design criterion are: To develop the potential of an interior space. To develop an interactive skin.

Interactive Boundary: The boundary with 6 sides will be an intermediate layer which reacts both to the environment and internal spatial organisation.

Heat Node Characteristics: 1. Random movement 3. They change their intensity of heat depending on the amount of heat they receive from the environment. This is based on: a) Their position in the interior 2. when they bump on exterior wall, they -deviate their direction -tries to remain inside the defined interior. 4.This intensity of heat change is denoted in their size. 5. The heat nodes creates a field of attraction.

b)2D distance between the heat node and facade: 6. If they are too close they repel each other.

Activity Agent Characteristics: 1. An initialization behaviour: They havea) Initial position b)Initial size c)initial colour d)field of attraction 2. A Find Behaviour 4. A slow behaviour: 8. Voronoi Behaviour: 3. A goal Behaviour: 5.A parallel behaviour: 7. A follow behaviour:

Interactive Screen behaviour: We have 6 surfaces as interactive boundary in our system. With every run every 6 boundary wall generates different intensity of heat.(any random number from a given range)

VISUALIZING THE PROGRAM -After the Heat node lifetime is

over, then heat nodes stop moving and settles their position. Activity agents also start arranging around their closest matching heat node. -The activity nodes try to arrange themselves so that they follow simple rules of attraction and repulsion to make a 3d voronoi pattern. - At the last stage of the system, among six closest neighbours of activity agents, they create surfaces.

-Heat nodes initializes its position at the centre. Activity agents initializes their position randomly. -Activity agents finds their matching nodes(which is closest to its location) and starts following it. -Heat nodes are taking information from the boundary walls and after calculating their own position and the amount of heat they gain. The heat nodes keep updating their heat and change their size.Activity agents keep following them.

Objective: To create a holy s pace for the meditators, to improve and to enhance their spirituality and intuition within a natural settings, to deepen and to create variety in various meditative stages, such like spaces are very
much required which is free from machinelike city, life and noise. It is mainly a centre for the meditators all around the country.

MEDITATION CENTRE

Quantum Foundation is also trying to provide education for the orphan and under privileged children of Bandarban. That is the reason for including a school and and a dorm for the children in the campus of the meditation centre.

-Almost one half of the site is on top of the green hill and other half is on flat land. -The highest peak of the site is at the eastern part , about 70' high and lowest part is in the middle , about 15' high. - There is forest like natural setting throughout the site which is very much in favor of doing meditation.

There are few stages in meditation specially more when it is formally practised : Learning meditation is considered a journey. So an esoteric path is designed where at different nodes spaces are designed to carry out different stages of meditation, like beginners', learners' and advanced meditation hall and the structures for serving the main purpose. Meditators will enjoy this essence.

Beginner's Meditation Hall:

We live in a responsive universe. If we drop a stone in a pond , it both sends out and draws in ripples. Through heartfelt and sincere prayer , the energy of our receptivity and intent extends , creating a reverberation in our deep psyche that reaches out to the Mystery and draws back the inspiration and blessing energy that may help us. Especially in times of great chaos and perturbation, centering prayer can offer a Sense of stability~ meaning, direction, inspiration, balance, harmony, healing, and faith.

Learner's Meditation Hall: An existing natural water body "Alokayon Hrad" is there at the site, where the learner's hall is situated where enlightment is nourished. This is the main meditation Hall. In meditation someone can focus-----on an object, or on a thought on a mark on the wall any body part and even on breath !

It is situated at the middle of the esoteric pathway. Focus is created both functionally and in composition.

In the natural water body a meditator can see his own reflection, which is called "monochobi"(reflection of mind). A phenomenological expression - "knowing thyself" is tried to create by natural setting and architecture.

Advanced Level Meditation Hall: In every system of sacred art and science we find reference to methods of generating a sphere of sacred space. This space is often represented as a mandala , a medicine wheel, Neolithic stone circles, round stained glass windows in cathedrals, or Other Sacred symbols.

Each serves as a tool, for contemplation guiding the mind to recognize and participate more fully in the dynamic interplay of forces within and around us.

A free flowing path is designed for the medi-tators at the meditation spaces and through their dorms. On the top most hill of the site a platform is designed with natural rocks from the site.

Here the people meditates on their own, merges with nature and becomes a part of it. This is "Bodhi Platform" where nothing is taught and expected one will achieve nirvana. It gives someone the feeling of the never ending journey.

"a person's room is a place................ where one takes off his hat and coat."

Objective:

This means where one wants ultimate comfort, physical , mental and to me of course visual !

Project Title : Designing Lifestyle ; own room Location: Gulshan 1, Dhaka , Bangladesh. Total Area: 270 Sq Ft.

Being a student of Architecture for 5 years to complete my B.Arch course, when I came out from my university as a fresh graduate, I found out that I have got an unique lifestyle, which put me into an urge to design my habitat. So, I designed my room to accommodate myself keeping in consideration my very own lifestyle, having comfort and giving it a different dimension.

LIFESTYLE

-Entering to the room through the door there is a painting above called "Mandala" in Indian culture it is considered that it brings good luck. -The Closet is just at the right to the door.
- On the left to the door a wall exhibits

and preserves as well the model of my undergraduate final year project "Meditation Centre", which looks more like an abstract art when not observed carefully. The wall is straight in front of my bed. So every morning when I wake up I see my "meditation centre" at my very first glance and gives me certain spirit which is no less than what one might have after doing meditation !

- A modern platform bed in the middle of the room keeping clear circulation around 3 sides and resting its back to the wall. - Above the bed a small shelf is made in the gap of toilet door and a beam to store and exhibit old story books and dolls which means a lot to me as whenever I see those i can cherish my childhood memories ! - An intimate but isolated corner to study and have all my books I have designed a table cum book shelf to serve both the purposes.
