hybrid inverter: voltage vector approximation mode and space vector modulation mode. In voltage vector approximation mode, the proposed control algorithm produces the inverter voltage vector which is nearest to the required output while the switching losses have been minimized. A voltage space vector modulation control technique has been developed. This method enables the multistage inverter designed with maximum number of levels to be operated in pulse width modulation control mode without subjecting the high voltage stage to high frequency switching. The voltage vector modulation algorithm operates the high and medium voltage stages with low switching frequency regardless of the output voltage amplitude. The low voltage stage is controlled using conventional space vector modulation strategy. Speaker Biography Saad Mekhilef received the B. Eng. degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Setif, Algeria in 1995, and Master of Engineering science and PhD from University of Malaya in 1998 and 2003 respectively. He is currently professor and the head of Department of Electrical Engineering; University of Malaya. Prof. Saad is the author and co-author of more than 150 publications in international journals and proceedings. He is actively involved in industrial consultancy, for major corporations in the power electronics projects. His research interest includes power conversion techniques, control of power converters, renewable energy and energy efficiency. PROTONs Vehicle Electrification Journey Md Ridzuan Md Yusof , Head, Advanced Vehicle Research & Technology, PROTON
Around the world, Governments are focusing on how to reduce emissions of Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) and how to reduce dependency and consumption of fossil fuel. Malaysia is not an exception to this movement - the Prime Minister had delivered Malaysia stand to reduce its carbon dioxide emission to 40 per cent by the year 2020. As the world moves towards an eco friendly future, the automotive sector plays a vital role in dealing the emission. Many countries have supported the Hybrid/EV Program as one of the ways to reduce GHGs. PROTON being the leader of the automotive industry in Malaysia has embarked into several initiatives to support to the greener future, one of which is the development and production of affordable, low maintenance and greener cars. Vehicle electrification is among the PROTONs strategy to offer significant fuel economy, emission reduction and e-Mobility for sustainable green mobility solution. Consequently, PROTON has developed Electric Vehicle technology demonstrators and embarked on fleet test vehicle program for evaluation, design optimization and analysis of driving behavior as well as customer feedbacks. Control of Hybrid Multistage Inverter for AC Drives Saad Mekhilef, Head of Department of Electrical Engineering, University Malaya Multilevel inverters are becoming increasingly popular for high and medium power applications. In the course of improving features of multilevel inverters and enhancing their competitiveness, hybrid multistage inverter has been introduced. Hybrid inverters reduce the circuit size and cost for a given number of levels and improve devices utilization. In this study a three-stage hybrid inverter has been designed. The inverter is composed of high-voltage, medium-voltage and low-voltage stages. Two control modes have been proposed to operate the
