FOREWORD

Thank God we say the presence of God the Almighty for His will I be able to complete the report. The contents of this report is discussing the gold from the Silopang. This report describes the mining process, the impact on the environment, as well as the solutions to avoid the adverse effects of mining. This report is based on insights, interviews, and from various media sources. Thanks to the lecturer of inorganic chemistry courses Mrs. Mery Napitupulu who guide and direct us in making this statement. In this report the settlement, not apart from the name of the faults and shortcomings. Therefore, criticism and suggestions from all sides so I would expect. Thank you.

CHAPTER I BACKGROUND

As for the background of this research is a course that requires inorganic lab values and also with respect to the material discussed on the types of metals. Therefore, we decided to do research on a metal mine. We agree on the research conducted in sub Ampibabo, Parigi-Mautong district, where there were gold mines. As for the point of us to do this research is in the area Silopang which is about about 12 km from district Ampibabo Tombi precisely in the village. In this village there is a place of gold mining on a large river, where most of the people there made his life through the results of this gold mining. And now Silopang area has become the gold mining area by local people, even mine is up to school age children.

Silopang who was once a farm fields and community gardens, filled with people who are now vying merauk Silopang advantage of nature. In Silopang area is almost about 80% of villagers Tombi mengeluti work as gold miners. I did this research was to determine the benefits for local communities surrounding the mine in this case including the effects caused by these mines. The location is relatively close and do not require a long time from the capital of Central Sulawesi, as well as the location of unspoiled gold processing machinery and harmful chemicals that can cause environmental degradation including water pollution, soil and air. This is what underlies the drafting of this report is to provide an understanding of the harm that will result the chemicals may have on residential environment.

A. PROCESS

The process of artisanal mining district Silopang Ampibabo not use harmful chemicals such as mercury, but is traditionally done by two methods. The first method uses the miners with mining equipment made of wood that is round with a small hole in the middle or the so-called Dulang tools and methods that are both referred to as a method of showers. As for how mining in the first method is to dig a hole around the river, then take the sand from the pit and put it on the instrument tray. After that play the instrument tray with a little terendang in water, it aims to separate the sand or stone with gold filings are mixed in the sand until the process is carried out in the sand tray tool alirang raised entirely by river water. Then the second method is the method of the shower, on the method of sand from the excavation included in the square-shaped instrument that has previously been entered into the flowing river water. Purpose of inclusion into the river that flows is to separate the grains of sand with gold mixed with sand, this process takes longer than the first because the process is sufficient to rely on the river to lift and separate the sand into gold.

B. TOTAL GENERATED The results of our study is based on mining areas of the village Silopang Tombi this data showed that each miner could earn as much gold as 5 grams a day. While gold miners in this area reached more than 30 people. Based on the narrative of a miner, Mr. Mading who have done this panning for 1 years, a profit of about two hundred and seventy thousand dollars per month. While the sales system based on a predetermined size that is per glass. In one glass contained 10 mg of gold and is priced at Rp. 45000.00.

CHAPTER III CONCLUSION

A. DISCUSSION Gold is a heavy metal with a distinctive yellow color. In powder form, reddishbrown color. The metal is melted at a temperature of 1064oC (Vogel, 1985). The metal is obtained from the mining process be it modern or is the manual way. Gold from old English word geolo (yellow); Au from Latin: Aurum (gold). Which is in group 11 and period 6 in the periodic table of chemistry. The first is known that there is a gold content of this area is by a resident who was the activity around the river in 2007. After this news broke, many people who came from various areas outside the district who took part Ampibabo seek to profit from the gold contained in this Silopang. Before he knows that there is gold content in this area, and surrounding villagers Tombi majority work as farmers relying on crops with a kakau, coconut, and rice. Gold for residents and the surrounding Tombi very supportive in all aspects of life in the present because looking at the condition of crops that are less so to show results in recent times. Berdasarkanpenuturan local community that is living through gold mining Tombi and surrounding residents has improved even more and lead a decent life. This condition is enough to make many people want to utilize this area as a land mine with the use of heavy equipment and hazardous chemicals such as mercury regardless of the condition of the ecosystem surrounding the mining area. Mining in this area has both positive and negative impacts. The positive impact experienced by residents around the mining area is one of them is able to provide employment opportunities for locals, so based on a pretty good income residents is also good for social and economic life of the local area especially Ampibabo district. However, on the other hand there are negative impacts of the mining process is the

siltation of river water due to mining in this case the panning system. There is also a result that may have not been realized by the citizens involving school-age children to do the mining or panning it, because it resulted in their interest to study or spend their spare time to do the tasks of the school becomes less and less. The desire to earn extra pocket money to trigger them to follow the gold panning activities around the area Silopang.

B. SUGGESTION As for suggestions that can be given are: Hoping to keep the public remain untouched panning process chemicals and mining with the retaining tray. Can consider the circumstances surrounding community, namely in relation to the environmental destruction that can be caused by the presence of gold mining.
