ABSTRACT

A wireless sensor network provides a systematic approach to the concept of Brain Computer Interface. A Brain Computer Interface (BCI) is a system that acquires and analyzes neural signals from the brain with the goal of creating a communication channel directly between the brain and the computer and allows user to control external devices with their brain activity. The main objective of this seminar is to develop wireless sensor network to connect various modules involved in BCI system and to propose a wireless network to control wheelchair or any other peripherals from a BCI. Recent advances in computer hardware and signal processing has made possible for communication between humans and computers with the help of EEG signal from the human brain. The electrical nature of human nervous system has been recognized and it is well known that the variation of surface potential distribution on the scalp reflects functional activities emerging from the underlying brain. This surface potential variation can be recorded by affixing an array of electrodes to the scalp and measuring the voltage between pairs of these electrodes which are filtered, amplified and recorded. The resulting data is called Electroencephalography (EEG). In Brain Computer Interface signals emitted from the brain are directly recorded, interpreted and acted upon external peripherals in order to perform required action without any muscular effort. BCI technology has the ability to solve the problems of the people who are suffering from disorders, handicaps or severe motor disabilities such as paralyzed patients can ask for basic necessities like water and food by using BCI system without any voluntary muscular control. Wireless platform for Brain Computer Interface improve efficiency and mobility of such bulkier system and has greater advantage in research of signal acquisition where people can access their devices without using wired communication.
