What TEACHER TRAITS develop SUCCESSFUL TROJANS? Attendance: 1- Teacher encourages daily attendance.

2- Teacher takes daily attendance at the beginning of each block and records students who are absent or tardy. 3- Teacher carefully monitors cumulative attendance/tardies and uses the school tools for record keeping and communication. 4- Teacher communicates with students, parents, counselors, and administration regarding attendance concerns and uses POWER to help students regain missed learning days. Behavior ~ What does good behavior look like? 5- Teacher manages student behavior by developing relationships with students. 6- Teacher uses a mutual respect policy in the classroom which encourages students to own their behavior choices. 7- Teacher uses PLC meetings to brainstorm strategies, discuss effectiveness of strategies, determine impact of strategies on discipline data. 8- Teacher implements active learning strategies to help students use their energy in learning and discouraging boredom and class disruption. 9- Teacher uses time-out partner first when a student is disruptive. 10- Teacher maintains professionalism by modeling positive communication skills in all interactions with students, colleagues, parents, and administration regardless of the circumstances. 11- Teacher communicates with students, parents, counselors, and administration to build a team of support for students who are regularly at risk with poor behavior choices, disrespectful and disruptive behavior. Learning 12- Teacher provides an environment that encourages learning from all students. 13- Teacher believes that every student can meet goals and achieve success in his/her classroom and uses a variety of strategies to make learning happen. 14- Teacher uses strategies that emphasize student participation, collaboration and active learning. 15- Teacher is a risk taker in the classroom and stretches beyond his/her comfort zone to impact student learning. 16- Teacher uses PLC to identify learning deficits, research and discuss implementation of new learning strategies, and creates common assessments that provide data showing impact of strategies on learning outcomes. 17- Teacher uses formative and summative assessments with fidelity, consistent with PLC consensus, to monitor student learning. 18- Teacher uses data from formative and summative assessments to modify instructional practices that will provide additional learning opportunities. 19- Teacher promotes POWER and the students know that POWER time is a positive learning opportunity. 20- Teacher is a unique, passionate educator who models life-long learning by his/her interactions with all members of the South family.
