Identifying training needs


1) Organisational analysis:- It involves a study of the entire
organisation terms of its objectives, its objectives, its resoures, allocation and utilisation growth potential and its environment. Organisational analysis consists of the following elements. A) Analysis of objectives b) Resource utilisation analysis c) Organisation climate analysis d) Environmental scanning

2) Task or role analysis:-It is a systematic and detailed analysis


of jobs to identify job contents, the knowledge, skills and aptitude required and the work behaviour.

3) Manpower analysis:-in this analysis the persons to be trained


and the changes required in the knowledge, skills and aptitudes of an employee are determined..

Importance of training

1) Higher productivity:- Training helps to improve the level of


performance. Trained employees perform better by using better method of work. 2) Better quality of work:- in formal training, the best method are standardised and taught to employees. 3) Less learning period:- a systematic training programme helps to reduce the time and cost involved in learning.

4) Cost Reduction:- trained employees make more economical use


of materials and machinery.

5) Reduced supervision:-Well-trained employees tend to be selfreliant and motivated. 6) low accident rate:- Trained personnel adopt the right work methods and make use of prescribed safety devices. therefore, the frequency of accidents is reduced. 7) High morale:-proper training can develop positive attitudes among employees. Job satisfaction and morale are improved due to a rise in the earnings and job security of employees.

8) Personal growth:-Training enlarges the knowledge and skill of


the participants.

Training objectives
Once the training need are identified, the next step is to set training objectives in concrete term and to decide the strategies to be adopted to achive these objectives. a) To impart to new entrants the basic knowledge and skills required for efficient performance of definition tasks.

b) To build up a second line of competent officers and prepare them to occupy more responsible positions. c) Nature and size of the group to be trained d) Roles and tasks to be coined out by the target group f) Identification of the behaviour where change is required
