Everybodys Column The Buffalo News One News Plaza Buffalo, NY 14203 Subject: Congress is weakening Social Security

December 9, 2001

Democratic and Republican Party Politicians are currently negotiating how to increase the payroll tax cut established in 2010. Politicians boast that this tax cut is giving Americans more spending money but they are deceiving America by not disclosing that this tax cut is significantly weakening Social Security. Even worse, these Politicians cannot prove that they ever obtained voter consensus for a payroll tax cut. In my opinion their goal is to place Money Managers (e.g. Mutual Funds, Investment Funds) in charge of funding Americas retirement System. Money Managers often point to their success in predicting the long-term stock price increases that resulted from Politicians creating the massive Federal Debt that now threatens our economy. Money Managers win by charging Americans a fee to advise them on how to use their retirement contributions to speculate in casinos called Stock Exchanges. Politicians win by obtaining campaign contributions from Money Managers. Americans lose --- this conclusion is based on my enclosed analysis indicating that the best approach for a secure retirement is to contribute to a strengthened Social Security Trust Fund. I am in favor of restoring the payroll tax and increasing the income cap subject to the payroll tax. The first intent of this Editorial is to confirm that I have complete contempt for the group of evil Politicians called our United States Congress. The second intent is to express my opinion that our democracy will not survive if we do not fix our Criminally Dysfunctional Political System. This is the mission of Clarence Political Oversight.
