How does nearsightedness, farsightedness, and a stigmatism affect the typographic form at different set distances? Can the data be used to accurately replicate the optical blur and distortion in other situations? Can this information then be put into application form using Apple's iPad in where the user can share their custom tailored vision experiment with others?

VISION PROBLEMS & HOW THAT RELATES TO TYPE: Different variations we found through our experiments were, nearsightedness, farsightedness, and a stigmatism. Each individuals particular visual acuity caused different levels of horizontal and vertical blur and distortion. This interference with the letterform obviously makes it harder for the individual to see them. However, the case speci c blur and distortion levels affect different typefaces in different ways. Futuras structure may be more apt to handle an individuals visual acuity than Helvetica for example.

HOW THIS INFORMATION AFFECT THE FUTURE OF TYPE AND DESIGN. Through our own testing, we discovered the varying levels of personal type clarity amongst different individuals. ICtype allows the user to not only explore the subject of type clarity in a personal way, but also provides them with an ever-expanding database of type clarity on a more global scale. This information could be invaluable to designers who should take typographic clarity into consideration, but may not have an expanded look about how the popular visual acuity plays into that clarity.
