Beyond the Grades

Tonys rst educational work, Beyond the Grades, is a book and CD playalong package written specically for post-grade eight drum kit students. The material is presented in a similar fashion to the graded exam syllabi of TrinityGuildhall and it aims to serve as a followon publication as well as an alternative to the diploma exams. The book includes four play-along pieces and two solo studies which cover a wide range of styles including jazz, metal, funk, latin, afro-cuban and odd-time fusion. It also introduces many advanced techniques aimed to challenge and prepare students hoping to make music a full-time career. 15/16 time, uptempo jazz at 310 bpm, a 9/8 foot ostinato and double bass drum playing are just a few of the technical difculties presented in the book.

About
" Tony Robinson is a professional drummer and multi-instrumentalist well versed in the art of popular music and jazz performance. He has performed and toured internationally, taught in the UK and Australia, and appeared as a conference speaker. " After spending many years studying drum kit and orchestral percussion, Tony relocated to London to study at The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP), Europes nest school of modern music. Tony was taught by some of the best players in the UK including Justin Scott, Neil Martin, Darren Ashford, Chuck Sabo and Fergus Gerrand while also attending many masterclasses with world renowned musicians such as Thomas Lang, Jojo Mayer and Benny Greb. Tony graduated with First Class Honours and was awarded the prize for Best Overall musician. " Tony has competed in several high prole national and international competitions including Young Drummer of the Year and The World Wide Drummer Search in which he was placed second. " As well as performing, Tony enjoys composing music for small ensembles with a particular emphasis on the role of the drummer. In 2011 he completed writing his rst educational book entitled Beyond the Grades, a CD playalong package for advanced drum kit students which includes six of his compositions. " Tony is currently studying for his masters degree in jazz drum kit at The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. He is also working towards the completion of a fellowship diploma at Trinity College of Music. Tony performs regularly, whether it be jazz with fellow students at the RWCMD or as part of his current rock band, OREZ.

Tony is a conservatoire trained musician who performs to a highly professional standard and in a multitude of different styles. He has much experience in live and studio performance and is an extremely versatile player.
