Mobile relay stations

Operational Station

Data transmission/receiving through the rotating blade of the helicopter

Available area for helicopter activity: within 60-70 km from the relay station

No relay stations Immediate data transmission from the helicopters

5 Heli-Sat System was developed for NICT(The National Institute of Information and Communications Technology) in Japan.

Outline of "Heli-Sat" Why "Heli-Sat"

Conventional system
Reduce costs Increase stability - High cost for total system because of multiple Relay stations - Transmission becomes unstable by the influence of mountains and tall building

Heli-Sat
Low cost for total system because it is possible to make up one earth station Steady Transmission near mountains and tall building

quoted from HP of Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications

According to circumstances, Enhance Anti-tolerance Transmission is impossible when road is cut

Transmission is possible even when road is cut

Demonstration for FDMA

Results of the Demonstration

Confirmation of the Video Quality & Voice Communication
Video quality at this demonstration(1.5 Mbps, MPEG4) is enough for the actual operation for the disaster prevention.
Video Mapping Screen Video Shooting Screen

Interactive voice communication is very useful to define the video capturing points etc.

Confirmation of Heli-Sat

system

practicality
The actual Heli-Sat operation for the disaster prevention is almost same operation of this demonstration. The stability of the Sat-Com link and practicality of the actual operation is confirmed.
Interactive voice communication scene at the demonstration

Sat-Com link using Superbird-B2 Satellite, keeps enough link margin at the actual 13 operation.

Production model Advanced approach for Production Model Realization of High-definition

Speed-up of information rate: from 1.5Mbps to 610Mbps Increase of EIRP by using reflector antenna Enhancement of forward error correction by using LDPC Application of High efficiency image encoding(H.264)

Realization of reducing the size, weight and power consumption

Application of reflector antenna Small, lightweight and low power consumption, compared with Active Phased Array Antenna Downsizing of cabin equipments (Antenna Control Unit, Modem)
