On Thursday 19th of April, Linda de Lange visited Brampton Primary School. She presented a whole school assembly on Judaism and held two sessions on the festival of Passover for Year 1 and Year 3. After hearing the story of the Passover, the children really enjoyed seeing genuine Jewish artefacts and food. They joined in with activities to help Linda to prepare for the Passover meal; they had a look at the food on the Seder Plate and learned the significance of each dish and finally they played hunt for the matza bread! Afterwards the children commented on how they liked asking a real Jewish lady questions from their previous RE lessons. Many thanks to Linda for her time and enthusiasm and to Miss Bartlett for organising the event. For more information about Religious Education at Brampton read more on page 2!

Brampton Primary School has adopted the Bexley Agreed Syllabus 2007 for the teaching of Religious Education. Our aim is to teach a broad and balanced RE curriculum and to present and teach RE as a challenging and exciting subject. The teaching and experiences of our pupils will reflect the fact that the religious traditions in Great Britain are, in the main, Christian. However, the teachings and practices of other principal religions will also be taught. Those represented in Great Britain are taken to be Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism. In line with the Bexley New Agreed Syllabus, the following religions are studied: Reception Refer to Early Learning Goals (Foundation Stage) Year 1 Christianity and Judaism Year 2 Christianity and Sikhism Year 3 Christianity, Hinduism and Judaism Year 4 Christianity, Islam and Sikhism Year 5 Christianity, Buddhism and Hinduism Year 6 Christianity, Islam and Buddhism Throughout each year group except year 4 there is a thematic unit studied. Year 1 Creation Year 2 Celebration Year 3 Belonging Year 5 Expressing Faith Year 6 Journey of life and death Whilst it is important that children gain specific knowledge about different religions, fostering positive attitudes and values are of equal importance, together with respecting peoples rights to hold different beliefs from their own.

Our new library furniture is due to be delivered and installed at the beginning of May. In the meantime staff have been going through the current stock and removing dated and tatty books. Miss Hope and Mrs Perks will then be arranging the books to ensure a speedy re-opening of the library for our children. If families would like to donate any new books to the library a name plate will be stuck in the book acknowledging the donor. Cricket opportunity The Little League is the annual Saturday morning cricket opportunity for pupils in school years 1-6. It starts Saturday 5th May, 10am 11.30am at Dartfordians C.C, Bourne Road, Bexley. The scheme is 'Pay As You Go' giving families the flexibility to attend when it suits them and children can join any week during the scheme. It is this scheme which has allowed so many in Bexley to become involved in activities and go on to join clubs and attend courses outside school. A flyer with the full details of the scheme are attached with this ParentMail.

And finally.......Back gate Your child will have had a letter today explaining that the back gate will be re-opening on Monday 30th April. Please read it carefully as it contains important arrangements for the beginning and end of the day. We would like to politely remind parents that that staff are busy before school and will not be able to speak with parents after the bell has rung at 8.55am when the register is being taken and lessons starting. It is much better if you can drop a short written note for your child to hand to their teacher and they can get back to you at a mutually convenient time. Remember if you like what were doing tell us and others! If you dont, please help us improve! School Office; 020 8303 2873 Fax; 020 8298 0286 Email:admin@brampton.bexley.sch.uk
