ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I am fortunate enough to study in Xaviers Institute of Social Services, Ranchi under the guidance of Prof. Kumar Mohit Spring who infused me with great confidence to take summer internship in one of the biggest names among multi-activity, multi-technology, multi-location conglomerate that has a global footprint Balmer Lawrie. Now that the summer project is done, there is finally time to reflect on the project. No project ever grows full-blown from the researchers head. It has hands to help it along the way. I am particularly indebted to my mentor, Mr. James Paul Gregory, Senior Manager - HR, Balmer Lawrie, whose help, brilliant creativity, and enthusiasm have guided this report from its conception to completion. I also thank him for his inspired support from the beginning of the project, expert feedbacks and advice. I am greatly blessed and humbled for my experience with Mr. PP Sahoo, EDHR, Balmer Lawrie whose pioneering vision is the guiding force behind the efficiency of various department processes. My special thanks to the RHR department of Balmer Lawrie, for their skillful wisdom and influence, which can be find sprinkled through this project. I also thank the various departments of Balmer Lawrie for their continued responsiveness to my needs. Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude to Prof. S. R. Abstract
Todays world is moving at an ever increasing pace. New technologies, opportunities, threats all force companies to have the ability to be able to change rapidly in order to stay competitive and survive in increasingly harder business climates. In this project we look at how various types of HR Processes being followed in an organization can play a vital role in determining its extent of growth. The focus is centered on analyzing and determining the competency level of various HR processes being followed at Balmer Lawrie and identifying the scope for improving the same for adding to the companys overall profitability. In this project I have come to the conclusion that redesigning the HR Processes in the organization around competencies will ensure that the organizational outcomes are delivered faster and better. In addition to that, it will help in finding the right candidate for the job through interdepartmental transfers, setting up a cross-functional team and self-managed teams. With better processes in place, better performance management will be guaranteed as well by distinguishing the outstanding performer from an average one. I consider it equally important to have a 360-degree feedback model in place for better management of the resources and setting up a rewards and recognition program for motivating the employees to perform better. Lastly, I strongly recommend designing a competency mapping model, and its subsequent use in training and succession planning for the organization.
