1. A room has 4 bulbs, 3 fans and 2 lamps. If all appliances have the same probability of failure = p then what is the Expected Value and variance of the number of appliances working at the same time 2. For the room of question 1, if bulbs have probability of failure = p, fans have probability of failure = q and lamps have probability of failure = m then what is the Expected Value and variance of the number of appliances working at the same time 3. The weather on a day can be cloudy, rainy or sunny. What is the expected value and variance for number of sunny days out of total N days? 4. The weather on a day can be cloudy, rainy or sunny. What is the expected value and variance for k sunny days after q rainy days? 5. You are testing a number of diodes, if k diodes are found defective then what is the expected value and variance of number of good diodes? 6. You are testing a number of diodes, first you find k defective diodes then q good diodes and then n defective diodes, what is the expected value and variance of number of good diodes? 7. A switch is transmitting N packets to another switch. The probability of any packet arriving at the second switch is p independent of other packets. What is the expected value and variance for number of packets reaching switch 2 at the same time? 8. A battery is in series with 2 LEDS, What is the expected value and variance of number of LEDs working given that battery is working. Probability of battery and LEDs working is p independent of each other. 9. Two students are coming to FAST-NUCES Lahore. One student is traveling at v miles/hours and second is traveling at u miles/hour. First student will arrive in t minutes with probability of p and second in s minutes with probability of q. If X is a random variable for distance travelled by each student then what is the expected value and variance of X? 10. You are playing a chess game against each of the 3 opponents. For each game, independent of other games, your chances of winning, losing or draw are equally likely. What is the expected value and variance of number of games won?
