Business Research methods chapter 1-5 1. Ch.1 - 8 As a manager and the researcher, the most important issue that to be concerned with is the honesty of my research and reports. It is almost unavoidable that the manager will care more about preserving his position in the company there by. Since this research deals with forecasting sales potential, it is possible that if after the research, the manager discovers that the sales potentials of the firm it could cost him his job. In other to prevent this, he could manipulate his results for personal gains and to keep his job. Also, time available might be detrimental factor. Being the manager and the researcher, there will be less time dedicated to either responsibility therefore the possibility of having the best result out of either the management responsibilities or researching will be greatly affected. 2. Ch.1 - 10 Clarifying the Research Question: I. Discover the Management Dilemma: The potential sales of outboard engines in the domestic market are not known. II. Define the Management Question: What is the sales potential of our outboard engines in the domestic market (US and Canada). III. Define the Research Question(s): Who will be the customer? What is our planned sales quantity? Are there any similar manufactures in the region? IV. Refine the Research Question(s): Research Proposal: I do not see a need for a research proposal since this research is to be done by the manager who is also an employee. Research Design Strategy: In other to archive a proper research, my strategy will include structured a plan or step by step direction on how to proceed with my research. I would proceed by create a list of questions such as; how do we proceed about gathering the necessary information we need, what will be our method of questionnaire? What will be our most reliable source of information? Data Collection and Preparation: This would include the collection of the data which we will use for that actual research or for sampling. Here we make contact with the areas and customers where we intend to do business. Data Analysis and Interpretation: In this section I will study the results of my research. Try to see if there are any similarities or difference between regions, any specific demands, any specific quantity. Finally try to make sense of my results by interpreting my studies. At the end of this, I should be able to substantially know what the potentials of expanding into local markets are.

Research Reporting: I. At this stage, my reports will be clearly organized and ready to be reported to upper management detailing the potentials of expanding into local markets. Management Decision: I. At this point, upper management decided if they are to proceed and fund the manufacturing of extra units for these local markets. 3. Ch. 3 - 6 A. Concepts: female taste, female satisfaction, male taste, male satisfaction, customer and defections B. Constructs: Quality of products and consistency C. In this situation male and female perception varies as well as the level of expectation. Maybe Females require more quality and than males who can make do with a little defect. 4. Ch. 4 - 4 The major problem in this case is the assumption by the president. Assumption is never a good thing. The president assumes that the cause of low productivity is as a result of job satisfaction. But he should use the resources at his disposal to dig deep into the root cause of the productivity issue before making any conclusions. 6. Ch. 4 - 5 a. What do you think of this research suggestion? This research will be sufficient to determine the level of contamination in general, but to specifically known about how this affects your business, a more specific research or direct contact with customers will give you a better knowledge of how are being affected or not. b. How, if at all, could you improve on your bosss formulation of the research question? In other to improve the formulation of the research question, management should do a proper inhouse investigation to make sure they are free of any other problems which could cause drop in

Management dilemma Investments are not improving. No one is investing in auto manufacturing. 2. Management question How can we convince people to invest or how can we convince current investors to raise their investments. 3. Research question I. Should the company look in to its invest goals? II. Should the company improve its investment strategy? III. Will advertising be an effective tool to attract investment? C. The retail advertising manager of a major metropolitan newspaper. 1. Management Dilemma Drop in advertising. More and more people are pulling out of advertising. 2. Management question What can the company do to attract more customers and increase advertising?. 3. Research question I. Should the company add sweeteners to attract more customers and keep current customers? II. Should the company offer lower prices to attract more customers? d. The chief of police in a major city. 1. Management dilemma The crime rate in the city seems to be getting worse and more.
