Keeping Track
The Challenge
The maintenance status of each individual component of protection systems significantly impacts the reliability of electrical power supply systems. It is therefore essential for power suppliers that the complete protection system is properly maintained and in a good condition meeting the requirements of current standards. For efficient planning and in order to be in a position to provide proof if necessary, an asset manager or test engineer must be able to answer the following questions at any time: > When was the last maintenance test carried out for the individual assets? > When are the next maintenance tests due? > Where can I find the test reports on each asset? > What is the maintenance status assessment of the overall system? It is often still difficult in practice to keep track of all important data and documents. For example, documents such as test plans, data sheets and test reports are often filed in different media (electronic or paper files) and at different places, from where they have to be collected with much effort when needed.
The Solution
In order to provide access to all information and documents needed at any time, OMICRON offers an innovative solution: ADMO is an easy-to-use database software for central planning and management of the maintenance activities for protection systems in the power industry. With this database, the following protection system components can be managed: Protection relays, communication systems, control circuitry, current and voltage transformers, circuit breakers, station DC supply. ADMO supports storing of OMICRON Test Universe test data, third-party test documents and documents individually created in Microsoft Excel, Word or Adobe Acrobat (PDF) file format. Of course graphic files can be attached as well (e.g., photos of the test set-up, screenshots).
Your Benefits
> Easy and safe management of test documents > Well-structured management of maintenance tests > Maintenance status overview of the complete protection system and its individual components > NERC PRC-005 support by default setting proposals and audit compliant functionality
The functionality of ADMO is based on the interaction of three levels: Location Asset Maintenance. Once a location is defined, assets can be added by entering the component-specific data and the appropriate maintenance cycle. Subsequently, all related maintenance events are scheduled and managed at the maintenance level.
Location
Location
The hierarchically structured location management allows a clear representation of all relevant power stations and substations with their voltage levels and feeders. When a location is selected, ADMO gives an overview of the maintenance status of all assigned assets.
Defining the location
Asset
System components to be added are assigned to a location and defined. The definition includes the precise data of the asset and its maintenance cycle. For the maintenance intervals, either the default settings based on NERC PRC-005 or individual settings can be selected. On completion of the input, the component appears in the overview with its current maintenance status.
Maintenance
The maintenance program view offers for each asset a time-related summary of the tests that are completed, scheduled and due. Everything is well-organized, recorded and easily visible at a glance, from the commissioning test to maintenance events performed and scheduled. Test reports and measurement results can be retrieved quickly and easily.

ADMO Application
The currently available version of ADMO, which is designed as a single-user solution, primarily covers the needs of small utilities where protection system maintenance is managed centrally by one person. In large utilities it may be applied as an evaluation version in order to prepare for the use of the next version which will be designed as a multi-user version with server connection.
