CAPITOL HILL MONTESSORI SCHOOL @ LOGAN PARENT, TEACHER, STUDENT ORGANIZATION STRATEGIC PLAN 2012 - 2015

The mission of the Parent Teacher Student Organization of the Capitol Hill Montessori School at Logan is to collaborate as a school community to support the school financially and programmatically in the principles and practices of Montessori in order to help the children reach their fullest potential through fostering: * strong global citizens, who welcome and value the ideas, beliefs and cultures of other people, through ongoing programming; Objective A: Sponsoring school-wide events that showcase the diversity of our community. Examples of activities that support this objective include: Thanksgiving baskets Service learning Family histories project Earth Day Pen pals Partner with other schools in community events Objective B: Support schools programmatic activities. Examples of activities that support this objective include: Model UN Volunteer Embassy Adoption Program Walk for the Homeless Trips abroad International Week Field Day

* communication and engagement among families and school staff, as well as relationships within the community; and Objective A: To disseminate timely information to parents via electronic as well as paper communication when necessary. Examples of activities that support this objective include: Parent listserv Robocalls Backpack letters CHM@L website Regular PTSO meetings Community listervs Facebook Twitter Lobby bulletin board postings Family directory New family buddies/orientation Objective B: Sponsor community days and secure volunteers to support ongoing improvements to the school. Examples of activities that support this objective include: Gardening days DCPS Beautification Day General work days Include students in community days Objective C: Building community through PTSO-sponsored events. Examples of events that support this objective include: PTSO meetings Teacher Appreciation Week Family nights Parent education sessions Haunted House MOTH Information Night Open houses Yard and Seed Sale Potluck and swap (e.g. clothes, books, toys, etc.)

* partnership with families and school staff to create a caring school community where the children come first, education is celebrated and each student gains the skills and knowledge that will lead to a productive, creative and satisfying life. Objective A: Coordinate fundraising efforts and develop budget to support continued development of the Montessori education. Examples of fundraising that support this objective include: PTSO donations Auction Haunted house Yard and Seed Sale Grant writing CHM@L swag sales Examples of budget priorities include: Professional development of teachers and support staff Classroom materials Curriculum development AMI Accreditation (Elementary) Educational enrichment for students (i.e. field trips, supplies, etc.) Library, garden, grounds, playground

Objective B: Support the school in developing and implementing large-scale plans for the school. Examples of activities that support this objective include: Library Gardens/grounds Playground modernization and improvements Sustained after-school programming External partnerships (i.e. Hands on DC, Casey Trees, etc.) Objective C: Secure volunteers for programmatic classroom activities. Examples of activities that support this objective include: Room volunteers Field trips Micro-business This strategic plan will be active upon ratification and will be in full effect until its expiration, June 30, 2015. Budgeting and program priorities will align with this strategic plan and the PTSO Board will periodically monitor progress toward meeting the objectives and will report out to the general PTSO membership regarding progress.
