MEDIA RELEASE Pendleton, Indiana-(May 7, 2012)- Superintendent Keith Butts reports that the Pendleton Correctional Facility conducted a Staff Assembly on April 19, 2012 and welcomed special guests, Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) Commissioner Bruce Lemmon, IDOC Executive Director of Adult Facilities James Basinger, and Indiana State Police Pendleton Post #51 Commander Lieutenant Robert Burke. According to Superintendent Butts, Staff Assemblies are conducted at facilities on a quarterly basis in order to provide the opportunity for employees to be updated on significant events occurring at the facility and throughout the Indiana Department of Correction. During the program, Commissioner Lemmon congratulated the facility for successfully passing a recent audit conducted by officials representing the American Correctional Association which will lead to the facility being re-accredited at the 142nd Congress on Corrections to be held in Denver Colorado this summer in July. Also during the Assembly, a number of employees were recognized for various achievements including promotions, years of service, and retirement. The facility used this occasion to present three employees with a new award recently developed by the facility designated as the ABCD Award (Above and Beyond the Call of Duty). This award is presented to employees who have demonstrated an exemplary commitment and dedication to the Pendleton Correctional Facility through their outstanding work performance and devotion to duty. The initial recipients of this award were maintenance employee Rick Talley and Correctional Officers Morris Claypool and Gary Stanley. Also recognized during the event was Operations Secretary Michelle Mo Rains who was honored as the facilitys Employee of the Quarter and Sergeant Boyd Lunsford who was recognized as the facilitys Supervisor of the Quarter. The program concluded with an informative presentation by University of Phoenix representative Andy Conrad who discussed the partnership the University has developed with the IDOC as well as providing information to staff outlining the program options offered by the University of Phoenix.
