Genie Brain components.

Apparently, Genie had all the components of her brain developed but she did not receive the enough stimuli to use them. Genie had problems in using the brocas area because she did not have interaction with people so she could not learn how to produce speech due to this problem she could not use the Wernickes area either. Because of the lack of movements when she was a child she did not develop the motor cortex correctly. Lateralization The lateralization started in Genie when she started going to the therapies. At the beginning she could not coordinate her movements but with the doctors help she could do it and then she started to say her first words. Also she practice the lateralization when she played with the ball and other experiments that the doctors applied in her without she realized it. Brain plasticity Genie spent a lot of time alone so the period in which she should acquire the language and the abilities to interact with other people passed; as a result, when she tried to learn to speak, she only learnt words but she was not able to make complete sentences. Critical period. She was not able to produce a fluency speech because she was found at the age of 12. if she had been found during the critical period, she would have learnt to speak because it is supposed that the critical period which is around the age of two to twelve is the period of life when language can be acquired.

Puberty. Genie was found during the puberty and in this period was when she learnt how to say some words. Physically, her body developed normally because she had all the physic characteristics that all people had during the puberty such as height and weight. Psychologically, she did not develop her brain because she behaved as a child even when she was not a mentally retarded. Synapsis. The synapsis is when the neurons get connected through electrical and chemical signals, is the moment when you understand something; therefore, the synapsis in Genies brain occurred when the doctors started to teach her how to pronounce some words and in the moment that she understood the meaning of the word. First Language Acquisition. Genie had as mother tongue the English language but alone for a long time, without any the interaction with other people and without any stimuli. She could learn English until the age of thirteen. She could not learn it learned totally as a native English speaker but she could understand and produce words to communicate. Second Language Acquisition. Due to she could not produce a whole speech and whole sentences to communicate as the other people who learned to talk since the critical period, she had to learn sign language to complete want she want to communicate. So she learned few words in English language and in sign language but she did not complete a whole language; even though, she learned some words in two languages. We can say that sign language was a second language that she learned.
