SBC of soil is 250 KN/m2 . Adopt Fe 415 HYSD bars and M 20 grade of concrete. [16] 3. Design shear key RCC retaining wall to retain earthern embankment 4 m high above the ground level. The embankment is surcharged at an angle of 150 to the horizontal. The weight of the earth and its angle of response are 18 KN/m3 and 300 respectively. Good foundation for the wall is available at a depth of 1.0 m below ground level where the permissible bearing capacity of soil may be taken as 160 KN/m2 . The value of the co- ecient of friction between concrete and soil may be taken as 0.62. Adopt M 20 grade of concrete and Fe 415 grade HYSD bars. [16] 4. Design columns and bracings of a elevated square steel water tank to store 150 KL of water. Height of staging 15 m. SBC of soil 250 KN/m2 . Intensity of wind pressure is 1.5 KN/m2 , permissible bearing stress on concrete 4 N/m2 . Use rolled steel sections and plates. [16] 5. Design base slab of rectangular RC water tank ( resting on the ground) with an open top for a capacity of 80,000 lts. The inside dimension of the tank may be taken as 6m 4m. Adopt M 20 grade of concrete and Fe 250 grade 1 mild steel. [16] 5. A rectangular shallow bin 3m 2.5m in plan is required to store 240 kN of foamed slag aggregates. The unit weight of the aggregates being 9.5 kN/m3 . The bin is supported on four R.C. columns at the corners. Using M 20 grade concrete and Fe 415 grade steel, design the side walls, hopper bottom and sketch the structural details. Angle of repose = 30 degrees, Angle of surcharge = 25 degree. [16] 6. A reinforced concrete circular bunker is 4m in internal diameter. The circular wall is 5 m high. It has a 45 degree conical hopper bottom.
