Get Started

Your BlackBerry 8820 for T-Mobile enabled with HotSpot @Home can connect in three ways:

Your HotSpot device is designed to seamlessly transfer among Wi-Fi networks that you have saved, standard mobile phone service via cell towers, and T-Mobile HotSpot locations. Your HotSpot device will automatically select the connection with the best signal strength.
* Your Wi-Fi radio is turned off by default. You must turn on your Wi-Fi radio to connect via Wi-Fi. For more information, see the Reference Guide and User Guide that comes with your device.

Insert SIM Card & Battery


1. Push here to detach SIM. 2. Press the silver button on the back cover and slide the cover up and away. Remove the battery. 3. Slide the SIM card into the SIM card

Set Up Your Wireless Router


For T-Mobile HotSpot @Home wireless routers:
Run the setup CD included with your T-Mobile router.

For non-T-Mobile wireless routers:


Confirm that your router is set up.

Run Setup Wizard


The Setup Wizard takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. The wizard helps you set up your e-mail address, personalize your device, and practice typing words, symbols, and passwords. After you complete the wizard, you can open it again at any time by pressing the Menu key and selecting the Setup Wizard.

Set Up Wi-Fi
1. Press the Menu key, scroll to Set Up Wi-Fi, and press the Trackball. 2. Scroll to Next and press the Trackball. 3. At Scan For Networks press the Trackball 4. Scroll to the desired network and press the Trackball. 5. Type a new profile name for the network, if desired, then scroll to Next and press the Trackball. 6. Scroll to Finish and press the Trackball.
To open, scroll to the application and press the trackball.
Wi-Fi radio is on and device is connected to a Wi-Fi network. Remember: If you purchased the HotSpot @Home AddOn, you can make unlimited nationwide calls when these icons are present at call origination.* Wi-Fi radio is off and device is connected to the EDGE standard mobile phone network. Wi-Fi radio is on but is not connected to a Wi-Fi network. Device is connected to the EDGE standard mobile phone network. *Whenever Minutes are used when call does not originate on Wi-Fi network. Set Up BlackBerry Internet E-mail


BlackBerry Internet E-mail
With BlackBerry Internet E-mail, you can use your device to access e-mail from supported personal e-mail accounts such as Yahoo!, Gmail, or AOL. You can also create a new BlackBerry e-mail account (username@tmo.blackberry.net). Messages from all accounts are displayed in your Messages inbox.

Connect to a personal e-mail account


1. On Home screen, press the Menu key. 2. Scroll to Manage Internet E-mail and press the Trackball. 3. Scroll to the time zone and press the Trackball. 4. Read the Terms and Conditions carefully. If you accept, scroll to Yes and press the Trackball and then scroll to I Agree and press the Trackball. 5. Type your e-mail address and password. 6. Scroll to Next and press the Trackball. A confirmation screen opens. 7. Scroll to OK and press the Trackball.
To add up to 10 accounts, press the Menu key and select Set up Internet E-mail > Email Accounts > Add An Email Account. Type your e-mail address and password and select Next.

Create a new BlackBerry e-mail account


1. On Home screen, press the Menu key. 2. Scroll to Manage Internet E-mail and press the Trackball. 3. Scroll down to Email Accounts and press the Trackball. 4. Scroll down to Create a BlackBerry Email Address and press the Trackball. 5. Type the username that you want to appear before the @ symbol in your e-mail address. 6. Scroll to Next and press the Trackball. 7. Scroll to OK and press the Trackball.

Note: To set up your BlackBerry device to connect with your corporate e-mail account, contact your IT department.

Messaging
myFaves is an optional calling plan.
T-Mobile myFaves helps you stay connected to the people who matter most in your life. Simply choose any five U.S. phone numbers* you call most often, on any network, and have them displayed on your devices main screen. To subscribe, go to www.t-mobile.com.

Read e-mail or text messages 1. On Home screen, scroll to the Messages icon and press the Trackball to open the inbox. 2. Scroll to the message and press the Trackball to open.

E-mail
E-mail allows you to receive and send e-mail messages to your contacts e-mail accounts, mobile phones, or devices that support e-mail messaging.
You have new e-mail or text messages if you see this icon on the Home screen.

Text Messaging
Text messaging (SMS) allows you to receive and send short messages to mobile phones or devices that support text messaging.
You have new text messages or e-mail if you see this icon on the Home screen.

When you have subscribed to myFaves, you will see five circles on the main screen a few minutes after you have powered on your device.

Manage e-mail and text messages 1. Scroll to the message and press the Trackball to open. 2. Press the Menu key and press the Trackball to select Mark Unopened, Save, Reply, Forward, and Delete.

Exclusions include 411, voicemail, toll-free, 900, calling card, customers own numbers, numbers accessing 500 or more linesother restrictions and exclusions may apply. Separate charges apply to downloads, messages, and other services.

Compose and send e-mail 1. On Home screen, scroll to the Messages icon and press the Trackball to open the inbox. 2. Press the Menu key. 3. Scroll to Compose Email and press the Trackball. 4. At To, type an e-mail address or a contact name. 5. Type your subject and message. 6. Press the Trackball and then press the Trackball again to select Send.

Compose and send text message 1. On Home screen, scroll to the Messages icon and press the Trackball to open the inbox. 2. Press the Menu key. 3. Scroll to Compose SMS Text and press the Trackball. 4. Scroll to the desired contact and press the Trackball or scroll to [Use Once] and press the Trackball to type a phone number that is not in your contact list. 5. Type your subject and message. 6. Press the Trackball and then press the Trackball again to select Send.

Other Features
Add A myFaves Contact
1. At main screen, scroll to an unassigned circle and press the Trackball. 2. Scroll to Create New or Get From Address Book and press the Trackball. 3. Type the or select the contacts information. 4. Press the Menu key. 5. At Save, press the Trackball. 6. At Yes, press the Trackball to confirm saving your contact.
The myFaves circle will display an hourglass while the contact is being updated. Once your contact is added, you will receive a confirmation and your contact will display on the main screen. Notes: Each original icon/ringtone selection, and each change to an icon/ringtone may incur a separate download charge. myFaves numbers may be changed a maximum of one time per calendar month.

Global Positioning System (GPS)


Your BlackBerry 8820 comes with a built-in GPS. Use it with BlackBerry Maps to view your current location, to navigate to a target destination, or to assist in getting driving directions. View current location on a map 1. On Home screen, press the Menu key. 2. Scroll to Maps and press the Trackball. 3. Press the Menu key. 4. Scroll to Find Location and press the Trackball. 5. At Where I Am, press the Trackball.

Navigate to a target destination 1. On Home screen, press the Menu key. 2. Scroll to Maps and press the Trackball. 3. Press the Menu key. 4. Scroll to Find Location and press the Trackball. 5. Scroll to Enter Address and press the Trackball. 6. Type the address. 7. Scroll to Search and press the Trackball. 8. Press the Menu key. 9. Scroll to Start GPS Navigation and press the Trackball.

Note: Maps & directions may not accurately reflect current conditions in all locations.

Get driving directions 1. On Home screen, press the Menu key. 2. Scroll to Maps and press the Trackball. 3. Press the Menu key. 4. Scroll to Get Directions and press the Trackball. 5. To enter the start location, scroll to Where I Am, Enter Address, or From Address Book and press the Trackball. 6. To enter the end location, scroll to Where I Am, Enter Address, or From Address Book and press the Trackball. 7. To view the directions on a map, scroll to View On Map and press the Trackball.

Call myFaves Contact


At main screen, scroll to the contact and press the Send key.

Synchronize Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Memos*


You can synchronize contacts, calendar, tasks, and memos between your computer and your BlackBerry 8820. 1. Install BlackBerry Desktop Software on your computer from the included BlackBerry User Tools CD. 2. Connect your device to your computer using the USB cable. 3. Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager software on your computer. 4. Double-click the Synchronize icon. 5. Click Synchronize Now.

Change Ringtone
You can set your BlackBerry 8820 to notify you of appointments, incoming messages, calls, and browser contents. Your device has five notification profiles: Loud, Vibrate, Quiet, Normal, and Phone Only. 1. On Home screen, press the Menu key. 2. Scroll to Profiles and press the Trackball. 3. Scroll down to Advanced... and press the Trackball. 4. Scroll to Loud, Vibrate, Quiet, Normal, or Phone Only and press the Menu key. 5. Scroll to Edit and press the Trackball. 6. Scroll to Phone and press the Trackball. 7. Scroll to Tune and press the Trackball. You can also change the volume and other profiles at this screen. 8. Scroll to the desired ringtone and press the Trackball. 9. Press the Menu key and then press the Trackball to select Save.

Use Bluetooth Technology


Your BlackBerry 8820 comes with Bluetooth technology, a wireless technology that enables data connection between your device and Bluetooth wireless headsets and other Bluetooth-enabled devices. 1. On Home screen, press the Menu key. 2. Scroll to Set Up Bluetooth and press the Trackball. 3. Select OK by pressing the Trackball. The device searches for available Bluetooth devices. 4. Scroll to a device and press the Trackball. 5. Type the passkey for the device you want to pair with and press the Trackball.

Send Text Message


1. At main screen, scroll to the contact and press the Trackball. 2. Scroll to SMS Text and press the Trackball. 3. Type your message and press the Trackball. 4. At Send, press the Trackball.

Replace or Edit Contact


1. At main screen, scroll to the contact and press the Trackball. 2. Press the Menu key. 3. Select Edit Contact or Replace Contact by pressing the Trackball.
