MEDIA RELEASE Pendleton, Indiana-(May 10, 2012)-Pendleton Correctional Facility (PCF) Superintendent Keith Butts reports that several members of the facilitys custody staff were recently promoted to the position of Correctional Caseworker. These employees were recognized for this achievement during a Staff Assembly conducted at the facility on April 19, 2012. According to Superintendent Butts, Chawn Davis, Chad Smith, Bryan McIver, Donald Jones and Elesha Hidalgo who all previously worked in the Custody Division at PCF will now function as Caseworkers in the facilitys Unit Team Operation. Chawn Davis began his career with the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) as a Correctional Officer at the Indiana Boys School in October 1995 and made Sergeant at the facility in 1999. In May of 2000 he began his employment at the Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility in the position of Correctional Lieutenant and in May of 2006 he was promoted to a Captains position at the Indianapolis Juvenile Correctional Facility. In February of 2008 he transferred to PCF as a Lieutenant and held this position at the time of his recent promotion to Caseworker. Chad Smith began his career at PCF in February 2003. He served in the capacity of Correctional Officer until his promotion to Sergeant in July 2008. He was serving in a Sergeants position prior to becoming a Caseworker. Mr. Smith has worked in a number of positions throughout the facility during his career. He has served as a Transportation Officer, a Firearm Instructor and functioned as the facility Armorer. He has also served on the facilitys Fire Department and Emergency Squad and is currently a member of the Honor Guard and the Situation Control Team (SITCON). Bryan McIver began his career with the IDOC in July 2010 as a Correctional Officer at the Madison Juvenile Facility. He transferred to the Pendleton Correctional Facility in April 2011. Mr. McIver serves on the facilitys Emergency Squad and is Quick Response Team and Weapons Certified. On April 26, 2012 he completed the Special Emergency Response Team Academy (SERT) and was advised on May 2, 2012 that he has been selected as a member of this elite and prestigious emergency response team. He is currently working toward an Associate Degree in Applied Science and an Associate in Criminal Justice through Ivy Tech Community College. Donald Jones began his career in corrections in 1994 as a House Arrest Officer for Delaware County Corrections. Mr. Jones came to PCF as a Correctional Officer in 1996 and subsequently received promotions to Counselor and Case Manager. He later worked as


a Unit Manager at the New Castle Correctional Facility. He left the IDOC in 2002 and was employed in teaching positions with Ivy Tech Community College and Ball State University. He was appointed as the Ball State University Site Manager at the Miami Correctional Facility in 2009. He returned to PCF in the Position of Correctional Officer in July 2011 and was serving in that capacity when he was appointed as a Correctional Caseworker. Mr. Jones holds a BS Degree in Political Science and Criminal Justice from Ball State University and a Master of Arts Degree in Political Science from Ball State University. Elesha Hidalgo came to PCF in July 2011 in the position of Correctional Officer. Prior to employment with the IDOC she served as a Correctional Counselor in the Marion County Jail System performing intake, transport and classification duties as well as serving as a translator for public defenders and new offenders entering the system. Ms. Hidalgo is working toward a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and Corrections at Harrison College and is expected to complete her degree in July 2012. She previously completed an Associates Degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice from Harrison College and is fluent in Spanish. The orientation and experience these employees bring to their new positions having worked as custody staff at this facility will undoubtedly serve them well as they transition into their new roles and responsibilities, expressed Superintendent Butts. All of these staff members have tremendous potential and it will be exciting to observe them as they continue to excel in their correctional careers, added Superintendent Butts.
