Judea and Samaria General Overview


Violent riots continued in the Judea and Samaria region as Palestinians targeted Israeli civilians, IDF soldiers and Border Guard Police. During the riots, Palestinians threw stones, Molotov Cocktails and burning tires. Over the course of the reported period, 80 violent Palestinian riots occurred and on 78 separate occasions stones were thrown at Israeli vehicles, including 5 Israeli buses. On one occasion rioters threw Molotov cocktails. Terrorist activity continues in Judea and Samaria, as exemplified by two events over the reported period: 19 April 2012, 30 Tank Shells and a number of M-16 bullets were discovered by an IDF mobilized patrol approximately 11 km north of the Sde Bar community. The arms were confiscated by the force. 22 April 2012, A number of suspects tried to run over a BGP force in the vicinity of the Ali community. The force fired at the vehicle. 24 April 2012, An Israeli civilian stabbed a taxi driver in the city of Kfar Saba, moderately injuring the victim. The suspect was arrested and taken for questioning, where he claimed to be a member of Hamas.

Acts of violence and vandalism by Israeli civilians decreased compared to the previous period, yet there continued to be violent confrontations between Israeli and Palestinian civilians, as well as between Israeli civilians and IDF forces.

Gaza Strip General Overview


Over the reported period, Gaza-based terrorist groups continued to fire rockets and mortars into Israeli territory. Between April 16 and 30, 3 Qassam rockets targeting civilian population centers hit Israeli territory. Crossings are now able to absorb over 400 trucks a day. In addition, following a Palestinian decision on the subject, heavy-duty fuel is now brought into the Gaza Strip through Egypt. During the month of April, 3,637 trucks carrying 100,113 tons of supplies entered the Gaza Strip through the crossings.

The amount of trucks that pass through the crossings is based on Palestinian demand up to the crossings' maximum capacity. In accordance with the Palestinian request, heavy duty diesel fuel is delivered directly through Egypt.
