You are required to appear for the same as per the following details: Reporting Date and Time: 8:00 A.M. on Monday, May 7, 2012 Reporting Venue: CS-105, CSE Office, CSE Dept, IIT Kanpur The written test will be held on Monday, May 7, 2012 at 8:30 AM at the Lecture Hall Complex and the list of candidates who qualify for interviews will be displayed by 2:30 PM on the same day at CSE department notice board. Interviews will start at 3:00 PM on Monday, May 7, 2012 and will continue on Tuesday, May 8, 2012. You must come prepared to stay at IIT Kanpur for TWO days from 7th to 8th May 2012. VERIFICATION OF DOCUMENTS You should bring with you the following ORIGINAL certificates and documents for the purpose of verification: 1. Qualifying Degree (B.Tech./B.E./M.Sc./M.Tech./M.E.) certificate and/or semester marksheets 2. Date of Birth proof or certificate 3. SC/ST/OBC certificate or Physical disability certificate or Sponsorship certificate (as applicable) You should also bring XEROX COPIES of all the above certificates without fail, if not submitted already along with your application. In case your last semester exam is not yet over or the resuts have not yet been declared, you may bring marksheets or grade cards of all the previous semesters whose results have been declared. INFORMATION ABOUT THE WRITTEN TEST The written test will consist of objective type questions with negative marking in case of wrong answers. The syllabus will be similar to that of CS examination in GATE. Each candidate will be assigned an unique serial number at the time of written test. All those candidates who have been called for written test and interview for M.Tech. or Ph.D. admission may be provided hostel accommodation from 7th May to 9th May morning. These candidates may directly approach Hall-2 (for male candidates) and Girls Hostel-1 (for female candidates) accordingly. Female guardian of a female applicant will be provided accommodation in Girls Hostel-1 itself, but male guardian of a female applicant will be provided accommodation in Hall-2. In case rooms are not available in Hall-2 on arrival, male candidates should go to Hall-5 or Hall-3 for accommodation and female candidates should go to Girls Hostel-2. In case your train arrives late at night on 6th May, there will be some one in the hostel to provide accommodation for you. Please bring simple bedding with you as the hostel room accommodation does not include bed sheets etc. Charges are payable in cash on arrival. TRAVEL ALLOWANCE The to-and-fro second sleeper class railway fare or ordinary bus fare will be reimbursed to all SC/ST candidates called for written test and interview for Ph.D. admission only. Such applicants must fill and submit a TA form along with their train/bus ticket to claim the reimbursement amount. GUIDELINES ON MODE OF TRANSPORT FROM KANPUR RAILWAY STATION TO INSTITUTE IIT campus is about 18 kilometers from Kanpur Central railway station. From the city-side of the station (platform no. 9) you may hire a cycle-rickshaw up to Bara Chauraha and then travel by tempo to IIT gate. Alternatively, you may exit from cantt-side (platform no. 1) and hire an auto-rickshaw or taxi directly to the IIT gate. NOTE FOR SPONSORED CATEGORY CANDIDATES A sponsored candidate must have been in the service at the sponsoring organization for at least two years at the time of admission. The sponsoring organization must specifically undertake to relieve him/her and to provide full salary to the candidate for the full duration of the programme.
