Goals for Work placement and description of work duties: My department The role involves working in a highly dynamic team which deals with The NAV of Hedge funds and investments in the Cork office. My role at Apex My job title is a Junior Fund Accountant, As part of the Apex team my role will involve primarily working across the 3 different teams in the office assisting the accountants in different daily functions which would include

Processing of investment trades & FX Bloomberg currency changes. Processing of share register transactions Ensuring Anti Money Laundering controls are adhered to for all share register transactions. Filing/Scanning of different reports across the office to ensure our own internal controls/procedures are adhered to Involved in SSAE16 audit procedures. Exposure to Net Asset Value calculations and assisting accountants where necessary in submitting completed reports to their direct manager for review.

I will be responsible for preparing the weekly NAV for the New World Mining fund on a weekly basis and also to ensure that the Share Registry schedule is up to date and booked on a weekly to daily basis. I will be expected to meet all deadlines but also ensure the highest standard of AML due to new fund checklists which must be review and completed within 72 hours of receiving a share pack. It is vital that I am able to manage the backlog of my assigned territories for a number of reasons. These include: so that brokers who are dealing with individual investors can update and correspond that all weekly NAV are approved by management. My Goals My main goal at Apex is to complete my placement with an honours grade as I want to get an honours degree. This would give me the best possible chance to get a job working in the Financial Sector along the investment line. I want to develop my skills, knowledge and understanding of the international business environment that Apex operates in but especially in the area of Investment and Stock Market.

During my time at Apex, I aim to: Acquire the basic skills of employment, including: email etiquette, suitable dress for work and business call experience. To work as part of a Dynamic team in a fast paced working environment. To work to in an efficient manner and also meet agreed deadlines on a weekly and monthly basis To increase my knowledge of financial Excel would be beneficial and also to use the Bloomberg stock trader & currency trader. A keen interest in this area of the financial market would again be beneficial. Improve time management skills; this will be vital due to the nature of the area I am in where prioritizing tasks is vital. Gain the knowledge necessary from colleagues to roll forward NAV but also the financial accounting experience to bring forward for future experience. Get experience of a multi-national company and learn how they operate from day to day. Gain experience of business meetings and make a valuable contribution to them. Gain an understanding of the processes and systems used from the start to the end of the process. Improve problem solving skills through working in a challenging environment. Improve inter-personal skills and teamwork skills through work on projects and day-to-day work as part of a large team.

Reflections on work completed to date:

Over the last 2 weeks I have been part of the New World Mining Fund Team. My work has been to over see and complete NAV transactions on a daily basis and assisting other teams with weekly currency transactions. Over the last few weeks I have been trained in to role forward NAVs on a weekly basis when subscription are bought into the current Fund (New World Mining ) I also have been trained in AML controls as new procedures have been introduced since starting my position. The training start on the first day by one of my colleagues who is going on leave on the 26 of April for 4 weeks. As he will be on leave I will have to prepare all NAV, Share Pack and AML guidelines for The New World Mining Fund. I was also trained up in the preparing of other funds in which the company deals with. As it is a fast paced environment due to the size scale of funds in different countries such as Bahrain etc the exceptions for completed deadlines is a must. Over the last week my role has increased with the use of the companies online software called paxus where funds P&L and also Balance and share dealing are updated. Going for I will be working with 3 different teams but as for now I will be looking after the NWMF which is a weekly fund. . I will be more challenged in the coming weeks as it begins to get busier and I will be handed more responsibility. I have noted that there is a very long list clients which are vital to the company.
